Overview
Contributes to the overall success of the Global Banking and Markets (“GBM”) AML Monitoring and Testing Department (“M&T”), Global AML, by ensuring that specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
What You’ll Do
Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Assist in developing and maintaining a robust AML Monitoring and Testing (M&T) Program including participation in annual test planning activities, developing Test Plans (aka Test Scripts), creating and/or updating Trend Sheets with appropriate testing attributes to ensure key risks and controls are subject to testing.
Support the Head of M&T in the actualization of the overall mandate of the GBM M&T Program and assume full management responsibility of the team in the absence of the Head of M&T.
Lead and supervise monitoring and testing reviews on AML-ATF and Sanctions activities to ensure the effective and compliant execution and sustainability of the GBM AML/ATF and Sanctions Compliance Programs and in accordance with the Scotiabank Enterprise AML, ATF and Sanctions Testing Standards and jurisdictional Addenda and Procedures, as applicable.
Lead team reviews and assume responsibility for ensuring that the work of testing Managers and Analysts within the team are executed in accordance with the requirements of Enterprise Testing Standards and Procedures.
Assume testing team leadership responsibility by ensuring that internal control weaknesses have been identified, errors have been quantified as appropriate, and that problems and associated impact are properly defined, documented and reported.
Serve as a mentor to other members of the GBM AML Risk Testing Team in the execution of their assigned testing engagements to ensure that high quality standards are consistently maintained across the board.
Ensure written results are comprehensive and well documented (including, but not limited to, sampling criteria, sampling methodology, trend sheets, test results, and accurately identify AML and Sanctions risk factors.
Ensure that Management’s Action Plans (“MAPs”) are appropriate and adequately address the risk of the issue.
Validate ongoing remediation activities by issue owners to determine whether such remediation activities are in accordance with the agreed upon MAPs.
Maintain the AML Monitoring and Testing program, identifying and implementing opportunities for increased effectiveness, efficiency, and risk mitigation.
Assist in developing meaningful, robust metrics and reporting of findings and progress against remediation objectives
Work with GBM AML Risk personnel and business line representatives to assist in the development of training, where appropriate, based on test/review results.
Perform ad-hoc, special and/or focused reviews as necessary.
Promote a risk-aware culture; ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.
Monitors the regulatory environment for emerging issues, legislation and policy requirements. Keeps abreast of trends and industry best practices through review of regulations and guidance issued by regulatory agencies and publications.
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What You’ll Bring
Strong understanding of the Regulatory Landscape Knowledge of Transaction Monitoring systems (i.e., Oracle Enterprise Case Management System and other investigative tools (such as World-Check, Open or Public Source web-based information, etc.) Strong understanding of AML and Sanctions associated risks Experience in working on dynamic and multifaceted projects Strong analytical, critical thinking, writing, communication and interpersonal skills Working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or similar field. A minimum of 5 years AML testing or audit AML experience in a regulatory, compliance, or quality assurance capacity within a financial institution setting. Prior experience in examinations/auditing roles, and an understanding of testing methodology and risk and controls analysis. Strong understanding of compliance and testing best practices. Familiarity with the key products offered in the division and related BSA/AML and Sanctions functions. Strong analytical, investigative, project management, planning and reporting skills. Strong written and spoken communication abilities. Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Highly organized and capable of dealing with complex projects. Ability to manage multiple reviews and projects concurrently. ACAMS is preferred.
