Summary of Job Duties:We are seeking to hire a tobacco Cessation Interventionist to support rural health care services for patient populations in South Arkansas served by our UAMS Family Medicine Clinic providers and staff. The Tobacco Cessation Interventionist will be responsible for developing and implementing smoking cessation programs for clients. They will also be responsible for providing guidance and support to clients to help them quit smoking.
This position will work closely with the providers and staff to provide comprehensive tobacco cessation services, including counseling, follow-up, clinical engagement, and program services promotion. This position will work closely with the Union County CONNECT Consortium, UAMS and other South Arkansas providers to provide comprehensive tobacco cessation services, including counseling, follow-up, clinical engagement, and program services promotion to reduce cancer disparities.

CMA, CNA, and/or PCA Certification with a minimum of Two (2) years of clinical experience.Under-graduate with Three (3) years of Tobacco Cessation experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.Bilingual skills are desirable but not required.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of tobacco cessation counseling techniques, including motivational interviewing and relapse prevention strategies.Understanding of tobacco addiction and its impact, including withdrawal symptoms and triggers.Ability to effectively engage with patients, families, and UAMS staff members and provide empathetic support.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey tobacco cessation information and advice.Knowledge of current tobacco cessation guidelines, evidence-based practices, and available resources.Ability to work independently and as part of a team to coordinate tobacco cessation efforts.Strong organizational and time management skills, including maintaining accurate documentation and adhering to program protocols.Ability to collaborate with healthcare providers and community organizations to develop and implement tobacco cessation initiatives.Knowledge of health disparities and their impact on tobacco cessation outcomes.Commitment to promoting a tobacco-free environment and patient well-being.

Conduct individual counseling sessions and provide tobacco cessation support to patients, family members, and UAMS staff and students.Utilize evidence-based tobacco cessation counseling methods, such as the 5A's approach, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention.Assist patients in developing a personalized tobacco cessation plan tailored to their individual needs and goals.Follow-Up:
Conduct follow-up phone calls or in-person visits to assess tobacco cessation progress and provide continued support.Monitor and address any barriers to tobacco cessation, such as withdrawal symptoms, cravings, or triggers.Offer resources and referrals to address any challenges or obstacles encountered during the tobacco cessation journey.Clinical Engagement:
Collaborate with healthcare providers, nurses, and other team members to integrate tobacco cessation services into the overall patient care plan.Educate healthcare providers about tobacco cessation best practices, including screening and assessment, evidence-based interventions, and referral options.Provide tobacco cessation education and resources to UAMS staff and students to promote healthy behaviors and prevent secondhand smoke exposure.Program Promotion:
