Toddler Teacher

Job Summary:

The Toddler Teacher will assist and implement overall programming and activities and maintain a healthy and safe environment in the classroom that promotes positive child outcome

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:

Implement overall classroom activities including observing, talking, eating with the children “family style”, supervising children in their acquisition of self-help skills (e.g. dressing, toileting, washing hands etc.). Demonstrate positive interactions with children and promote learning across all developmental domains by planning and facilitating activities.Responsible for maintaining accurate records, including attendance, meal sheets, quarterly reports and diaper changing logs. Effectively communicate daily with supervisor, coworkers, and parents. Maintain documentation and portfolios to guide in completion of all child assessment data (on-line & paper versions) progress notes, and confidential child information log.Responsible for the daily supervision of Teacher Assistants, Interns/Student teachers.Assist in all aspects of the classrooms daily routine including cleaning, sanitizing, and other assigned tasks. Assure the health and safety of the children at all times.Other duties as assigned or determined by the program needs.  Skills & Qualifications: Must be 21 years of age and have a CDA or AA in ECE or a related field, with three months supervised work experience with toddlers and a valid EEC Teacher Certification. Must meet EEC, QRIS & NAEYC Requirements. Familiarity with CLASS is a plus.Some flexibility with hours according to program needs required, be a positive team player, and demonstrate patience, empathy and kindness. Must be able to participate in classroom housekeeping duties in all areas, able to use bleach/cleaning solutions for sanitization purposes, be capable of hearing and seeing the children to monitor their health and safety.Must be able to meet the physical demands of an active learning environment which include, but are not limited to bending, sitting, walking, standing for 30 minute intervals and ability to get up and down.Attendance at relevant trainings, meetings, Open House/Family Nights and special events required.Engage in ongoing staff development to improve professional skills.Flexible schedule is required to meet the needs of our children and families; including some evenings/weekends.Ability to read, write, and express oneself in English required.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable.  CPR and First Aid certificate preferred or ability to maintain CPR/ FA within 30 days of hire.Show documented proof of current physical exam, negative TB test and proof of MMR immunity.  (Hepatitis B immunity is advisable).  Must have a suitable CORI, SORI & DCF background check on file prior to employment.Must have a suitable fingerprint check completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.Ability to work effectively with and meet the needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, and identities, including underserved communities and people from the different racial groups, socioeconomic statuses, nationalities, and languages that make up GLCAC’s clientele, to support the agency’s mission of building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization for employees and clients alike.

Other:

Supervisory Responsibility:  Teacher Assistants and Intern/Student Teachers

Travel:  Required for home visits, meetings, training, and off-site events.

Physical Demands: This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment and uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
