Analyzes specifications, lays out material stock, sets up, operates and programs machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair tools, dies, jigs and fixtures, and gauges machine parts

Follows safe operating proceduresMaintain 7S standardsPerforms TPM activities as requiredReview and follows quality, process and operator instructionsPerform quality checks as required and accurately records using Plexus or required methodIdentifies, contains and generates Discrepant Material Report (DMR) for any nonconforming material and forwards to the Material Review Board (MRB)Communicates with co-workers from the previous and following shifts to discuss problems and concernsInsures operation runs at required production rate.  Notifies Team Leader or equivalent when this does not occurAccurately reports production and scrap using Factivity or required methodActively participates in continuous improvement activitiesStudies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate partsComputes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operationsSets up, operates and programs machine tools and inspection equipment and verifies conformance of machined parts to specificationSmooth flat and contoured surfaces to required specifications and fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanismsVerifies dimensions, alignments and clearancesUses tool plan system to move inventory and release jobsHeat treats tools or partsRetrieve drawings as requiredExamines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of partDevelops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of productMeasures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machiningSelects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on tooling machinesCalculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control mediaStarts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as requiredSets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control dataFits and assembles parts into complete assemblyInstalls machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performanceOperates equipment to cut, braze or solder partsConfers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining and production related problemsCompletes other tasks within job classification as assignedAssists other employees as directed by the Team Leader and / or Supervisor

Required Skills and Education

Education:

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); One year machinist certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of experience and education
