Tool/Die Machinist

In this position a Tool & Die Machinist will:

Conform to all safety and environmental requirements.

 

Set up and operate all types of machine tools, CNC die grinding equipment, heat treating furnaces, quenching facilities and other auxiliary equipment needed in the manufacture and/or heat treatment of tools, dies, equipment parts and spares and other job-related projects. 

 

Receive work assignments, written or verbal, from manager. May lead and/or direct other personnel in performance of job assignments.

 

Plan and layout work, including all necessary functions to perform task. Capable to work from sketches, prints, drawings, similar or damaged parts and other instructions/information received from manager.

 

Assembly/disassembly and testing limited to the specific components to be built, fabricated, machined or modified.

 

Transport die shop related portable equipment and in-process work throughout the plant.

 

Perform related work in the field including polishing dies, modifying equipment, providing measurements, etc.

 

Grind and sharpen tools necessary to perform the work assigned.

 

Perform heat treating including dies, tooling and other die shop related work. Operate various furnaces, including all auxiliary equipment and atmosphere systems per process specifications and heat treat instructions. Assemble materials, build heats, load and unload furnaces, transport materials to the next operation.

 

Braze/silver solder tools for die shop use.

 

Remove and replace defective “workpiece” thermocouples.

 

Run hardness checks related to die shop work.

 

Inspect and identify work, maintain machining records, make temperature checks as required, maintain furnace logs and record all information pertinent to furnace cycles; notify Manager of any malfunctions of equipment or deviation from drawing, process specifications or heat treat instructions.

 

Perform minor lubrication and minor repairs of die shop equipment; assist maintenance personnel on major repairs.

 

Keep work area in clean and orderly condition, remove chips and used coolant to designated areas in the die shop, organize raw materials and tooling. Inform manager of needed replacement of die shop related inventory.

 

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate for this position must meet one of the following:

Journeypersons card, recognized in Pennsylvania Associates degree with greater than 3 years of experience Relevant US military experience in
