Dentsply Sirona, Sarasota, FL is seeking a skilled Tool & Die Maker to join our team. This position is scheduled to work M-F 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, however must be available to cover for 2nd shift and work overtime on Saturdays and Sundays to meet customer demand.

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

As a Tool and Die Maker, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities

Support of Operations including modification and or creation of tooling, machine components, and / or fixtures. Direct machining support for engineering Group Maintain quality standards and schedules Understand and follow instructions and standard procedures Interface with Engineering, Department Supervisors and Quality Control inspectors Coworkers, and Senior Management Adhere to WI’s, QSR, ISO, SOPs, work, and safety rules. Machining custom components as needed. This job function directly ☐ indirectly ☒ affects product quality

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock. Programs as required, Mills, Lathes, EDMs and Grinders by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs. Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads. Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position. Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards. Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes. Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations. Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs. Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

 

Completion of apprenticeship program or equivalent Experience with Tooling and adjusting Speeds and Feeds Ability to maintain, repair and build Stamping Dies as required. Perform basic arithmetic computations (i.e., add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals) Knowledge of GMP Ability to hold tight tolerances. Strong understanding in blue print reading/ geometric tolerance interpretation Basic understanding of machine guarding Working knowledge of WIs, ISO, SOPs, work rules, and safety guidelines Ability to read, write and speak English Follow all established health and safety policies. Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work overtime if needed. Dependability and ability to adapt to change are essential. Knowledge in use of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators and scales.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (SPECIALIZED):

Basic understanding of GD&T. Basic ability to operate Digital readout systems.

 

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

 

High School Diploma/GED OR equivalent work experience at the discretion of the Hiring Manager Certificate for 4yr. Tool and Die apprenticeship program or equivalent work experience.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Limited temperature fluctuations, air condition environment Primary work function is in the maintenance department Exposure to general manufacturing environment

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must be able to stand/sit for at least 4 hours at a time. Have normal eye/hand motor coordination and the ability to grasp and hold small objects. Must be able to climb stairs. Must be able to climb ladders. Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, twist, reach with hands and arms several times a shift. Possess a normal extended reach. Must be able to use all tooling equipment to complete tasks. Consistently uses manual dexterity. Have the ability to determine color acuity. Must be able to transport, lift, and demonstrate materials, product and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
