Tool Engineering Tech 1
Proven to Perform. From the edges of space to the bottoms of ocean, our materials are proven to perform -- and so is our team. We're hiring high performers as proven as our products. Join us. PRIMARY ACTIVITIES: + Analyzes individual job machining requirements based on ATI Materials machining practices and metallurgical characteristics of material for tooling and fixtures. Plans machining operations in proper sequence and prepares operational machining instructions. Creates all required tooling setup charts, operational drawings, templates, fixtures or special tooling via latest CAD technology. + Utilizes knowledge of machinability of materials, fabrication difficulties, physics, mathematics, and other physical sciences. + Determines or recommends applications of tools and the material to be processed, checks machine physical capabilities, and corrects for stock condition variances. + Prepares CAD manufacturing drawings, specification sheets, procedures, machining instructions, and any technical work necessary to complete tool designs required to perform planned machining operations. + Programs operations to be performed in proper sequence. Issues N/C programs, manuscripts and operator work instruction paperwork as requested by PM supervision for all 2-axis N/C turning, boring and milling equipment. + Confers with other engineering and technical personnel at all levels to investigate and resolve problems concerning tools, equipment, fixtures, or gauges. Recommends re-design, repair, or re-building as required. + May observe or operate computer-input devices during testing or processing runs and analyze error diagnostics, to correct programming and encoding errors. + Utilizes most recent level of programming software techniques in developing and cataloging standardized program format and simulation. + Completely reviews, verifies and corrects job drawings of other technicians prior to shop issuance as the scheduled Departmental Checker. + Recommends changes in design or methods for cost reduction purposes to determine feasibility of producing parts. + Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence concerning tooling or machine functions and savings due to changes in methods. + Coordinates with production and other personnel on levels as required for purpose of assuring recommended changes are incorporated and reflected in manufacturing instructions prior to production runs. + Utilizes standard data to incorporate time values in programs for purpose of evaluating methods, cost reduction, etc. + Analyzes blueprints and customer and engineering drawings to determine tolerances, dimensions, and configurations required. + Recommends operating procedures and assists in the preparations of departmental instructions covering standardized machining or programming processes. + Makes mathematical computations and calculations. Assures accuracy and functional correctness of tools, fixtures, and equipment designs. + Verifies input and output data with written plans for accuracy. + Observes operations on N/C machine tools when necessary to verify accuracy of programming and machining methods. + Provides technical advice and assistance as may be required, and reviews work of or trains employees in similar or lower classifications. + May generate tool paths for template layout and/or manufacture. 21. May generate digital dimensional reference points to assist in equipment programming or for computer modeling input. + May attend company sponsored classes, schools, and/or activities including safety, cost reduction, and staff meetings designed to introduce new or update existing techniques and standardize existing techniques. + Performs related duties and responsibilities.
