TOOL MAINTENANCE A

 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Background in a progression towards learning tool and die making (mold making) or similar field.Prefer at least five years experience with horizontal lathes, vertical mills, CNC mills, EDM machines and surface grinders; well versed in speeds / feeds, cutting tools and materials.Prior data collection and organization experience is preferred.Extensive background in tool and die making (mold making) or similar field.Intermediate computer experience with Master Cam software and the interaction with machining centers.Ability and willingness to learn new machining and/or inspection methods and equipment.

 

JOB SUMMARY

 Works under minimal supervision to plan, fabricate, and maintain pattern dies, sprue dies, gauges, or ancillary items of extreme complexity. All types of precision machine shop equipment, hand tools, and measuring device tools are used in extremely complex tasks.  Independent judgment and skill are frequently required.

Tool Maintenance ‘A’ may not move for two (2) years unless movement is a promotion within the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSMaintains, Fabricates and Manufactures dies, patterns, and gauges of extreme complexity.Using Computers (entering information, etc.)Must be able to read and interpret Product Criteria (PC) and Activity Instructions (AI).Must be able to function as a member of a team and be able to work under general supervision.Must be able to maintain expected quality levels.Comply with all site required policies and procedures including but not limited to:  EHS, Quality, Code of Conduct, and the Wichita Falls Employee Handbook.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 1.     Analyze machining requirements and mentally determines the necessary procedure to facilitate the task. 
 2.    Performs all set-ups of equipment and molds utilizing knowledge of machine shop practices and procedures as well as a working knowledge of tool and die making (mold making) equipment and techniques.
 3.    Inspects dies for conformance to established specifications.
 4.     Performs complex machining using horizontal lathes, cnc, vertical mills, and surface grinders.
 5.    Sets up, creates, and sharpens drills, tool bits, and cutting tools.
 6.    Assists in training lower level toolmakers.    
 7.    Plans the repair or modification of complex molds and repairs or modifies as required.
 8.    Repairs complex damaged dies, gauges, and fixtures per requests from production.
 9.    Follows tool work order requests per engineering and manufacturing instructions.
 10.    Manufactures fixtures and tools from rough sketches or complex electronic models.
11.    Maintains records, drawings, electronic files, or other paperwork as required to complete task at hand.
12.    Maintains work area in a clean, orderly, efficient, and safe condition.
13.    Performs precise machining or salvage operations on certain castings that cannot be machined by other departments (finishing, grinding, etc.).
14.     Performs other duties as required.
15.     Complies with all EHS rules related to the work environment.

SKILLS AND ABILITIESMust be able to follow verbal and written instructions and think logically to analyze situations.   Must have a well-developed sense of spatial relations.Ability to work quickly, safely, and accurately to meet schedules.Must be manually adept.Ability to communicate by oral/written means to convey results of tool rework.Must have an excellent working knowledge of machines, how to set-up and operate complex equipment, and an understanding of trigonometry, geometry, and general mathematics.Ability to read and work to machining / detail blueprints and electronic models.Must be able to master brazing and silver solder techniques for tool repair.Must have an excellent working knowledge of tool steel heat treat parameters.Work requires attention to safety practices and procedures around machinery and precise, rotating equipment and use of good work habits. Must have mechanical ability.Must operate precision equipment and measuring devices to collect accurate and meaningful data for the task at hand.ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITESComply with all department, facility, corporate and regulatory EHS regulationsWear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
