Tooling Manager
Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Tooling Manager to support our Procurement organization. This role involves managing all aspects of multi-million dollar supply-based tooling for assigned commodities throughout the lifecycle of pre-production, production, and service, including engineering changes, refurbishment, and tooling relocations. In this role, you will manage the full tooling lifecycle, including financials, design reviews, construction, technical guidance, try-outs, commissioning, and build event support. You will ensure tooling and process capabilities meet cost, quality, and timing requirements to achieve program goals. Collaborating with suppliers and cost reduction teams, you will identify cost-saving opportunities. You will also interface with internal and external customers, such as Supply Managers, Purchasing Program Managers, Quality Managers, and Product Development Engineers, to ensure effective communication and project success. Additionally, you will manage material procurement, production planning, inventory control, outsourcing, and vendor selection, while creating integrated processes that connect internal functions and external suppliers to optimize operations. This role is within the Supply Chain Management function and involves a combination of disciplines. Responsibilities + Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Category Management Team (CMT), Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, PMO, and Readiness teams. + Travel: Domestic and international travel up to 25%. + Concept Sheets: Provide tool cost and timing input for approval gate requirements. + Readiness: Report on new tool progress or conduct on-site reviews to support launches. + Tooling Development: Oversee process, design, build, buy-off reviews, and approvals. + Benchmarking: Conduct competitive bids, direct sourcing, BCC sourcing, and material buys. + Negotiations: Negotiate with tier 1 suppliers on new tooling, engineering changes, and VA/VE studies. + Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Support engineering in optimizing product design for manufacturing and tooling costs. + Tooling Guidance: Provide guidance at tier 1 suppliers, troubleshooting issues leading up to PPAP. + Technology: Enhance knowledge base for technology. + Sustaining Activity: Manage current production tooling maintenance. + Tool Moves: Oversee supplier exits, tooling transfers, and new supplier startups. + Inventory Management: Track tooling inventory using TIM and TAR documents. Oversight Responsibilities: + Purchase Orders: Write purchase orders for SBT. + Invoicing: Approve supplier invoices. + Accruals: Close aged open purchase orders with suppliers. + Scrap Tooling: Manage the NSTR process with formal approvals for disposal. + Refurbishment: Handle budgets, CAR creation, approvals, tracking, schedules, and banks. Minimum Requirements + Master’s degree + At least 6 years of technical project/program management experience + At least 1 year of lead experience OR + Bachelor’s degree + At least 8 years of technical project/program management experience + At least 1 year of lead experience OR + At least 10 years of technical project/program management experience + At least 1 year of lead experience Additional Requirements + Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States.
