Tools and Parts Attendant (Forklift Operator)
Summary The Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Inventory Management Branch is seeking a Tools and Parts Attendant (Fork Lift Operator) who will utilize fork lifts and pallet jacks to unload and move materials, equipment and supplies to distribution locations or storage rooms. Responsibilities Tour of duty for this position is: Mon – Friday. 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends. Must have a valid state issued driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Forklift Operation Certificate and Pallet Jack Certification within one year of hire date. The individual selected for this position will: Operate Forklifts with a load capacity of less than 10,000 pounds and a height range up to 168 inches to unload construction material from vendor delivery trucks and place on shelving. Drive vans and/or sedans and pickup trucks to transport materials and staff to various locations. Report items that are in short supply due to higher-than-normal demand, breakage or frequency of repair. Prepare requests to order such items and requests for items not normally kept in stock. Examines incoming items to confirm that the items comply with what was requested. Use an automated stock keeping system to monitor inventory status. Prepares item descriptions for new items introduced into the system. Check in tools returned by workers. Visually examines tools and tests them to determine whether they should be sent for repair. Maintain an inventory of supplies and materials based on usage rates. Participates in periodic inventories which include updating pricing information and storage and retention rates. Receive materials and supplies personally stored and monitors the receipt of supplies and materials purchased and stored by trades’ shops. Coordinate the movement of incoming and outgoing supplies and placement of materials with the docking and storage areas. As assigned, enters receiving and shipping documents into the automated inventory system. Screen shipping and receiving documents to identify any discrepancies in number and/or type of items ordered. Contacts vendors to resolve such issues and expedites the resolution of discrepancies. Follow all relevant safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen. You must be able to pass a drug test. Your resume and question responses must demonstrate job-related elements. Must possess a State or D.C. driver’s license and Forklift operation requires a Certificate as a Powered Industrial Truck operator for the Forklift in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.178(l)(6). Forklift certification can be obtained within one year of hire. Pallet Jack certification required.
