Job Summary:
As a Trade Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that our company complies with all national and international trade regulations. You will play a critical role in mitigating legal and financial risks associated with cross-border transactions and trade activities. The Trade Compliance Officer will work closely with various departments to develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure compliance with trade laws and regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about changes in trade regulations, tariff codes, and export/import laws. Interpret and communicate relevant regulations to internal stakeholders. Monitor and assess the company's compliance with trade laws and regulations. Documentation and Record Keeping: Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of trade-related documentation, including import/export declarations and permits. Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all trade-related transactions and documents. Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments on trade activities to identify potential compliance issues. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks. Training and Education: Provide training to employees involved in trade activities to ensure understanding and adherence to compliance requirements. Keep the organization informed about changes in trade regulations through regular training sessions. Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments such as logistics, finance, legal, and sales to ensure cross-functional understanding and compliance. Work closely with Customs authorities and other government agencies. Audit and Monitoring: Conduct regular internal audits to assess compliance levels. Implement corrective actions and improvements based on audit findings. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement in trade compliance procedures. Implement best practices to enhance overall trade compliance efficiency.Minimum & Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist) is a plus. Proven experience in trade compliance, customs regulations, and international trade practices. Strong knowledge of trade laws, import/export regulations, and trade sanctions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Analytical mindset with attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.Preferred Qualifications:
5 years’ experience in import/export and trade compliance, commodity controls, regulatory and security initiatives Demonstrated basic knowledge of trade regulations, including HTS classification, valuation, country of origin, sanctions and denied party screening, product marking and recordkeeping. LMW, MIDA, SST and local custom regulatory requirement is necessary.Education:
Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of trade compliance experience with an importer/exporter, distributor or manufacturer
Physical requirements/Work EnvironmentThis position primarily works in an office environment. It requires frequent sitting, standing and walking. Daily use of a computer and other computing and digital devices is required. May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities. Some local travel is necessary, so the ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid Driver’s license is required.
