Primary Responsibilities

The Freight Brokerage Specialist is responsible for load booking, load management, and expanding the company's freight brokerage capabilities. This role involves building and maintaining relationships with clients and carriers, negotiating freight rates, and ensuring the efficient movement of goods. Essential Functions

DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assures all customer service requirements and unique load requirements are known, understood, and incorporated into planning and execution processes. Assures truckload appointments are set to fulfill customer and load requirements. Builds carrier relationships for new and repeat businesses, secures truck capacity, negotiates operating agreements, and onboards carriers.Knowledgeable of the market to negotiate service terms and conditions, assures carrier compliance with legal, governmental and company standards, and books carriers for truckload traffic.Oversees load status to ensure loads are progressing as planned and maintains recordkeeping from beginning to end. Takes immediate corrective action when issues arise. Collaborates interdepartmentally. Close each load. Determine if the customer’s requirements and unique load requirements are met. Settles issues, discrepancies, and special service charges. Records carrier performance and conducts carrier reviews. Raises attention about any recurring issues to the Brokerage Manager for corrective action and resolution. Processes truckload rate requests for internal and external customers. Maintains keen awareness of customer circumstances and truckload market conditions to maximize opportunities, expand volume, and drive margin.Other duties and projects as assigned. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Strong communication skills both verbal and written and interpersonal skills.Strong negotiation skills.Proficiency in using transportation management systems (TMS) and sales software.Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Knowledge of transportation regulations and industry best practices.Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Ability to solve issues as quicky as possible and in a professional manner. Ability to develop and maintain personal professional, lasting relationships with customers, carriers, and co-workers, based on mutual understanding, trust and shared accountability.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field required. 2+ years of experience in freight brokerage, logistics, or sales.
