Markets Operations is responsible for driving every part of the trade lifecycle post execution. Its global teams manage settlement activity, risk and control, while ensuring the delivery of regulatory compliance and seamless operational client service across 60 countries.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Trading Conduct Finance Control BSS Lead.

Principal Responsibilities

Role context:

The role serves the hub trading of HSBC Hong Kong as well as other Asia Pacific sites. The role is primarily focused on the reconciliation and substantiation of back-office vs ledger settlement balances across multiple asset classes and the escalation of issues via the Account Reconciliation Control Certificate to Finance. The role will support managing the operation and controls as is today, but also support the strategy, articulation and delivery of a new target operating model for the BSS team and process optimization and delivery. This role involves close engagement with stakeholders in the Asian sites and off-shore Operations teams, IT, Operations Management, Change Management Finance

What you’ll do:

Support the strategy and implementation of the standardized BSS controls target operating modelAccountable for process design and optimization to minimize the risk of balance sheet incidents and FTB ledger completeness and to reduce cost through automation and efficient processingPartner with senior business stakeholders including Product Control Management, Chief Financial Officers to design and implement the Front to Back Operating Model to be adopted across all regionsAgile Product Ownership for balance sheet controls including all associated activities with supervision for senior L1 process ownerSupport the efficient and smooth running of day-to-day Balance Sheet Substantiation processAccountable for the review and account ownership of balance sheet accountsRunning monthly BSS process recs between GL sub ledgers; investigation resolution of issuesResponding to ad hoc queries from various Finance Regulatory reporting teams relating to Operations owned balance sheet accountsEnsuring quality assurance/testing gives us confidence in the quality of the substantiation processTimely and appropriate response to queries and requestsEstablish and meet challenging PLAsAccountable for process design and optimization to minimize the risk of accounting control completeness and accuracy, and to identify ways to reduce cost through automation and efficient processingDrive forward the strategy and implementation of a strategic Accounting Control TOM, and partner with senior business stakeholders including Product Control Management and ITPartner with the change team and enable input from the business to deliver strategic change initiativesSupport the efficient and smooth running of day-to-day Accounting Control processConstantly drive high performance and team development in an extremely time sensitive environment; drive a uniform and consistent work culture across BangaloreEnable transparent, open communication and demonstrate proactive leadershipResponding to ad hoc queries from various Finance Regulatory reporting teams relating to the Accounting Control processSupport various new initiatives related to data governance and control, and support/establish necessary data governance practicesAdherence to Group policies, audit, controls, and compliance requirementsEnsure all SOPs (standard operating procedures) are in place and updated appropriately

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Chartered Accountant or equivalent accounting qualification, MBA (Finance) from a leading management institution with at least 10 years of experienceExperience in managing high end Accounting or Reporting Analysis or finance and accounting activitiesExperience in reconciling substantiating traded markets products e.g. FX, fixed income, equities and derivatives Strong accounting knowledge, including exposure to IFRS accountingExperience in people management and team leadership preferredExcellent communication and presentation skills Technically proficient in systems and in MS Office, particularly Excel. Knowledge of other platforms such as PC Portal, TLM, AssureNET and Saracen would be advantageousExperience in Six Sigma/Lean methodology will be an advantageComfortable interacting a team which operates across multiple time zones, from HK to London and GSC’s
