Summary The primary purpose for this position is to provide traditional counseling, healing and cultural education services to Gallup Service Unit patients/clients and staff under the direction of the coordinator of Native Medicine. In addition, the incumbent assists in providing cultural consultant and resource services. Reports directly to Native Medicine Program Coordinator. Provide traditional counseling/healing services to patients and their families in clinical and community settings, by bedside, native healing room, traditional hogan, sweat lodge, and community sites. Provide native diagnostic procedures and ritual treatment procedures, including simple ceremonies, blessings and sweats. Provide training on native medicine and culture for staff. Perform ceremonies or blessing for departments, including before and after mock codes, new facility dedications, annual unit blessings and other activities as needed. Create and participate in the Traditional Native Medicine Committee and other service unit committees. This position is Open Until Filled. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provide Native diagnostic procedures and ritual treatment procedures including: simple Native ceremonies, blessings and sweats also offering suggestions of traditional treatment as an adjunct to medical care. This may include offering and performing simple ceremonies/blessings, or advising patients to seek out other native practitioners for treatment. Must currently be a native traditional practitioner with skills in diagnosis, simple healing, blessings, prayers, offerings and traditional counseling. Must have knowledge of Navajo and other native ceremonial systems. Must have good communication skills in the English and Navajo languages. Must be culturally competent in diverse cultural and health care settings. Must have a license or certification from the Dine` Hataali Association, Inc. or Dine` Medicine Man Association.
