In this position, you will work on traffic safety engineering projects, which may include traffic safety data analysis or review of construction plans for safety feature or work zone standards. Additional tasks may include mining crash and roadway databases, GIS integration work and presentation preparation. What you’ll learn and do: + Investigate existing highway conditions + Tabulate project quantities and cost estimates + Mine databases + Query/review video footage of traffic events + Retrieve and analyze Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) sensor data + Perform traffic analysis + Conduct safety feature review + Use ArcGIS to map safety features Preferred background: + Civil or construction engineering major + Interest in working with ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, Oracle Spatial Database, and/or Microstation + Interest in learning traffic safety engineering, spatial data processing, thematic mapping + Good communication and organizational skills + Ability to work independently as well as on a team Minimum Qualification Requirements Completion of at least two years in civil, construction, materials, or transportation engineering, or in an engineering management curriculum at an accredited four-year college or university with eligibility for junior status upon return to school.
