Additional education may be substituted for experience at the rate of one year of experience for one year of education. Required Special Qualifications + Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen; + Possession of a valid Class B CDL allowing the ability to operate vehicles with airbrakes within 6 months of appointment. Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only) + Installs and maintains microprocessor based electronic and electro-mechanical traffic control devices, including controllers, receivers, detectors, communication devices, and other related equipment; + Installs, constructs, and maintains conduits; cables; ducts, poles; signal heads; vehicle detection; traffic observation equipment, such as cameras; and other signal related equipment; + Works with traffic engineers in programming traffic signal controllers. + Performs routine and emergency repair of traffic signals on site, including call-out work after hours; + Performs component level bench repair on microprocessor-based digital traffic control devices, including trouble shooting as required; + Installs, maintains, and trouble shoots the traffic signal communications system, including fiber-optic and twisted pair communication cable; + Inspects contractor’s work related to the installation of traffic signals and systems; + Performs underground cable location services; + Installs and maintains underground cable, street lighting fixtures, and high voltage switching devices; + Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions; + Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems; + Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principals, practices and new developments in the assigned areas; + Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
