Job Summary
Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing manual labor with a variety of construction and maintenance work. Depending on area of assignment, may be responsible for installation and maintenance of traffic signs, pavement markings and speed humps. Will provide support for the various traffic control device maintenance functions. Working conditions are primarily in an outside environment with frequent exposure to temperature extremes, high noise levels, damp/wet surfaces, unfavorable fumes, and hazardous materials. Exercises no supervision.

Essential Job Functions
+ Performs maintenance duties which may include removing or installing traffic signs and removing or installing pavement markings.
+ Cleans, repairs, and replaces traffic signs.
+ Prepares City traffic infrastructure for various City events.
+ Participates in the construction, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs, pavement markings and other traffic control infrastructure.
+ Inspects equipment and reports any equipment in need of maintenance or repair.
+ Operates equipment used in the installation and removal of traffic signs and pavement markings and other small equipment.
+ Installs traffic control devices needed for temporary traffic work zones, occasionally lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and greater than 50 pounds with assistance.
+ Work area is typically areas with active traffic.
+ Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
+ High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
+ One (1) year of experience in labor or maintenance.
+ Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

+ Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
+ Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

+ Knowledge of manual labor tasks.
+ Knowledge of hazards and safety measures as they apply to the type of work being performed.
+ Knowledge of methods, equipment, and materials as they relate to the type of work being performed.
+ Ability to understand and follow instructions.
+ Ability to learn basic laundering techniques, depending on area of assignment.
+ Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
+ Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
