About the Role:
General Trading is looking to expand it's Maintenance Department and we are seeking a skilled Trailer Mechanic to join our team in Carlstadt, NJ. As a Trailer Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing trailers to ensure they are in safe and optimal working condition. Your work will directly impact the safety and efficiency of our operations. You will work closely with our team of mechanics and report to the Traffic Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 2 years of experience as a Trailer Mechanic or similar mechanical role
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Posses own set of tools to perform the tasks of the position
• Understanding of USDOT & FMCSA rules and regulations on repair and maintenance
Position Requirements:
An experienced mechanic should be able to accomplish the following tasks:
• Install mounted tires on tractors and trailers
• Change brakes, seals, and bearings
• Repair and replace trailer/box roof, including corner cap
• Repair and replace trailer floor board
• Repair and replace air suspension system
• Repair and replace swing door
• Repair and replace overhead door
• Repair and replace panels
• Diagnose and repair 12V electrical and lights.
• Diagnose and repair ABS System.
• Repair and replace landing gear.
• Perform trailer axle alignment.
• Repair and replace kingpin and upper coupler.
• Straighten body and bumpers.
• Repair and service lift-gates; solar charging package
• Change oil and filters on refrigerated units.
• Repair & replace alternators, starters, water pumps, sensors on refrigerated units.
• Welding using Mig, Stick, Steel, Iron & Aluminum
• Operate acetylene torch for cutting metals
• Refrigeration experience not necessary but a plus! (Carrier/Thermo King)
• CDL-A license is preferred but not required
Responsibilities:
• Performing routine maintenance on trailers, including inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical, structural, electrical, and hydraulic systems and lift gates.
• Performing preventative maintenance to ensure trailers are in safe and optimal working condition
• Troubleshooting and repairing brake systems, suspension systems, and other mechanical components
• Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance and repairs performed
• Communicating with the Traffic Manager and other team members to ensure timely completion of repairs
Skills:
As a Trailer Mechanic, you will use your strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to diagnose and repair trailers. You will also use your ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics to perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot issues. Your attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team will ensure that all maintenance and repairs are completed accurately and efficiently.
