TRAINING INSTRUCTOR
Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a Training Instructor, Position Description Number T7210000 and is part of the Camp Ethan Allen Training Site of the Vermont Army National Guard. Responsibilities MAJOR DUTIES: 1. Conducts training through classroom presentations and practical exercises. Serves as Virtual Training Aids Devices Simulators & Simulations (TADSS) Training Instructor for the training development and instructional work in simulations for the TSC to include but not limited to the Engagement Skills Trainer 2 (EST2), the Call for Fire Trainer (CFFT), Virtual Convoy Operations Trainer (VCOT), and the Virtual Battle Space (VBS) 2 Gaming System and training, aids, devices, simulators, and simulations (TADSS) related to the Synthetic Training Environment (STE). Follows a prescribed training program as outlined by Department of the Army (DA). Contacts and utilizes the expertise of National Simulation Center training and simulation agencies and NGB-ARNG Training Support (TRS) for maintaining a current training program which meets DA regulatory requirements. Presents platform and practical instruction to students (includes conducting conferences, practical exercises, lectures, and other activities), follows established lesson plans. Develops training Programs of Instruction (POI's), lesson plans, advance sheets and related materials for school and student use covering assigned blocks of material, reviews available materials to determine desired changes. Makes changes in material, including supporting documents, aids and devices, and manner of platform and practical presentation, insuring conformance to applicable format and regulatory guidance. Conducts training to provide expert military knowledge of virtual battle simulations and to place emphasis on the Mission Essential Task List (METL) and the commander's intent. Conducts training in such a way as to assist the Active Army, Reserve, National Guard force and civilian agencies in always improving their job knowledge. Provides results through instructional ability and common knowledge of military operations and virtual simulation procedures. Controls student activities and behavior for effective learning conditions; responds to student reactions, questions, and performance without omitting established objectives, assists individual students experiencing difficulties grasping the material. Administers written and practical evaluations and checks on availability and condition of needed equipment, and TADSS. Assists in making any changes required to virtual simulation instructions due to changes in the regulations that cover the simulation requirements for the ARNG GTC TSC. Monitors master schedules for each program of instruction (POI) of each course, detailing daily what is covered and the sequencing of blocks for the extent of the course specifying the order of blocks, the hours for each, the type of instruction(e.g., conference, practical exercise, etc.), the number of instructors, and any other elements such as holidays, ceremonies and other pertinent circumstances affecting the course flow. Provides a practical knowledge of instructional methods and materials to conduct courses in battle simulations and instructions. Maintains accountability of assigned TADSS in accordance with applicable Army, ARNG and local regulations, policies, and procedures. On occasion assist in the TSC warehouse to prepare TADSS for use, maintaining accountability, and conducting maintenance to ensure TADSS are fully mission capable. 2. Provides guidance on the application of training materials; training techniques appropriate for classroom presentation and hands-on practical exercises on Engagement Skills Trainer, VCOT, CFFT, and various other TADSS including STE TADSS when fielded; compliance with regulations, standard operating procedures concerning training and proficiency of task-oriented skills. 3. Practical exercise training: Conducts training exercises in the use and functions of all available TADSS used by the Active Army, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard, other DoD agencies, and other entities as directed. Evaluates performance of members to determine effectiveness of training and provides advice and assistance in improving performance. Evaluates effectiveness of training on task-oriented skills using the virtual simulations. Plans and sets up varied scenarios during day and night operations. Conducts simulation virtual exercises with a computer-operated control system. 4. Area I: Current On-board Title 5 or Title 32 Dual Status Technicians (Tenure: 1-Career, 2-Conditional, 3-Indefinite or 4-Term ) - Only those current Vermont National Guard employees who are in permanent, indefinite, or term technician status as result of being competitively hired by the VTNG. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience that provided evidence of the ability to instruct students in the use of equipment, principles, or practices of the subject or occupation. This experience may have been gained as a teacher or instructor; in on-the-job supervision or instruction of subordinates or fellow workers; or in work involving application of the principles, practices, and techniques of the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled. Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and the methods and techniques of instruction. Length of time is not itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated based on the duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES: -This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition. Civilian personnel of the Department of the Defense are not exempt from this provision. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. - This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
