Training Instructor (Flight Simulator)
Summary About the Position: This position is located at Fort Belvoir, VA. Responsibilities The employee performs the duties of Flight Instructor and Instrument Examiner utilizing the UH-60L/M "B1ack Hawk Aircrew Trainer" (BAT) Flight Simulator or similar equipment. Employee also instructs in instrument approach and departure procedures, holding procedures, and use of instrument landing systems. The employee evaluates comprehension, retention, and application of procedures related to visual and instrument flight, tactical flight, helicopter gunnery, aircraft/weapons system operations, and limitations. In addition, the individual conducts a crew briefing on mission, weather, flight route, performance data, flight control transfer, and crew duties, including emergency duties. Perform periodic proficiency flights in the simulator to demonstrate flight techniques and procedures to aviators during training and to successfully complete evaluations administered by standardization personnel. Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) may be required approximately 10% of the time. Must be able to pass an audiometry prior to appointment and periodically thereafter. Failure to pass an audiometry will result in the employee being subject to adverse action proceedings IAW appropriate regulations. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes assist with evaluating pilots and/or instructors/examiners in advanced techniques and/or procedures for rotary wing aircraft; assist with providing in-flight and/or ground instruction and/or evaluations such as refresher and mission related training; and review trainings through evaluation materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education / Training Program Administration Manages and Organizes Information Oral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
