Responsibilities Job Summary A TRANSCRIPTIONIST II transcribes and utilizes voice recognition text editing technology and interprets dictation by physicians and other healthcare providers in order to document patient care and utilize critical thinking skills to audit reports in the electronic medical record. The position is also routinely involved in research of questions and in the education of others involved with patient care documentation. MTA duties include but not limited to the auditing and transcription of operative and procedure reports, discharge summaries, history and physical examinations, consultations, emergency department notes, diagnostic tests including laboratory, radiology, pathology, and other related healthcare documentation of a confidential nature. Work activities for this position require the ability to shift priorities and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision and perform duties of a Medical Transcriptionist/Auditor as workflow dictates. Works closely assisting physicians and office personnel as requested. Transcribes and/or text edits all acute care hospital specialties and report types of medical dictation to provide a permanent record of patient care reports which requires the advanced knowledge of medical terminology, English language, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications, laboratory values of medical dictation from healthcare providers with various accents, dialects, and dictation styles. This includes the transcribed correction and input of those corrections in the QA log in order to provide this information to the outside service for educational purposes. In-depth or broad knowledge of multi-specialties in an acute care hospital setting, with the ability to transcribe reports at 175 lines per hour or a minimum of 14 dictation minutes per hour. Audits physician-created reports by utilizing strong critical thinking skills working in the EMR to recognize, interpret, and evaluate inconsistencies, discrepancies and inaccuracies in medical dictation or physician-created medical reports and appropriately edits with or without the use of voice files so as not to compromise the dictator's intended meaning or style, with the requirement to perform this function at a report review rate of 10 reports per hour. Expands job-related knowledge and skills to improve performance and adjust to change. Uses interpersonal skills effectively to build and maintain cooperative working relationships, understanding and respecting cultural diversity, including supporting one another and performing other job related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED Required Experience 2 years Related acute care hospital experience and electronic medical record, including Microsoft Office application experience.
