ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB is looking for an entry- to mid-level Transit Planner to join our Transit and Rail Planning team in North Carolina.
Responsibilities
Perform analysis tasks via Excel and/or GIS on a variety of Transit and Rail projects.Develop mapping and graphical concepts to communicate concepts to clientsPrepare technical reports for Transit and Rail planning projects such as Transit Development PlansPrepare briefings and present analysis and findings in client and/or public meetingsParticipate in data collection activities such as bus stop inventoriesDevelop methodologies to analyze large datasetsUnderstand transit funding and policiesWork effectively and collaboratively in a multi-discipline team environmentSkills and Abilities
Interest in transit planning with a focus on long-term transit planningDesire to work with transit agencies across North Carolina and the Mid-AtlanticWillingness to help transit agencies with a multitude of different types of projects and problemsWorking knowledge of GIS software (mapmaking and analysis) is a mustStrong writing and analytical skillsCreative problem-solving skillsWorking knowledge of all applications within the Microsoft Office software groupWorking knowledge of virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Teams, etc.Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to work effectively on teams and a desire to grow professionally as a technical expertCapacity to juggle multiple assignments and competing prioritiesComfort level working collaboratively and independently, in person and virtuallyMinimum Qualifications:
1+ years’ experience in transit/transportation planning and/or operationsBachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or a related fieldWorking knowledge of Esri ArcGIS softwarePreferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Urban PlanningTransit agency experienceOne or more years working in the transit planning field
