ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a talented Transit & Rail Engineer to join our growing Transit & Rail practice.  The position is located in our Wethersfield, CT office. 

 

The Transit & Rail Engineer will be part of a design team supporting a variety of railroad and rail/bus transit projects.  The candidate should have expertise and experience in the railroad and/or rail/bus transit industry and a desire to grow in the business. 

 

Responsibilities

Work on a range of civil design projects related to transit and rail infrastructure. This may include various aspects such as work related to stations, site/civil, drainage, track infrastructure, support facilities, and maintenance/storage yards.Support the Project Development process including preparation of conceptual level designs, feasibility studies, planning studies, and supporting documentationPerform inspections, evaluations, and assessments of rail and transit infrastructureDevelop specifications, cost estimates, and project schedulesPrepare technical reports and analysesAssist in the development of construction bid documentsProvide design support services during constructionWork effectively and collaboratively in a multi-discipline team environment

Skills and Attributes 

Strong technical design skillsExcellent verbal and written communications skills and analytical skillsStrong capability in the use of computer applications including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)Experience with the MicroStation CADD platform is preferred but candidates with AutoCAD experience and the desire to learn MicroStation will be considered

Qualifications

1+ years of civil engineering experience required1+ years of experience in railroad and/or rail/bus transit engineering design is highly desiredBS in civil engineeringClear understanding of railroad and rail transit design requirements including AREMA recommended practicesFamiliarity with track, station, layover facility and general civil engineeringEngineering in Training certification preferred
