Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking an entry-level Transit / Urban Transportation Planner I to join the growing transportation planning team in Detroit, Michigan.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Planning and project development activities for transportation projects under supervision of more senior staff.Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans and programs.Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, roadway network, crash records, and asset inventories.Utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze data and prepare detailed maps for use in reports.Conducts concept level evaluation of transportation improvement options.Documents and presents findings on transportation planning projects.Research current transportation related topics at local, State, and Federal levels.Research project options and documents findingsAssists with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers.QualificationsMinimum Requirements :
BS in urban planning, Civil Engineering, transportation, geography, public policy, Or related field.Must have a valid driver’s license and pass Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checkPreferred Qualifications :
Technical writingProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPointBasic knowledge of transit and transportation planning topicsAbility to conduct multi-modal transportation planning and analysis, including analyzing and recommending solutions for urban transportation issuesKnowledge of the principles and practices of planning, research and data collectionAnalytical skills to interpret research data for reports and apply statistical techniques in practical situationsOral communication and interpersonal skills to explain planning concepts clearly to clients and the publicKnowledge in developing and presenting illustrative reports and graphics utilizing Adobe CS or other graphics software packages.Fast learner who is open to learning new concepts, specializations and software programsDemonstrated experience in creating transportation planning documents or analyses for city governments or affiliated organizationsAdvanced knowledge of using GIS for spatial analysisInterest in obtaining AICP certificationAdditional InformationRelocation assistance is not available for this position.About AECOM
