The National Security Innovation Network is building a unit focused on connecting with private capital, DoD prime contractors, contract, and subcontract opportunities, as well as large major command equivalent DOD customers.

We are seeking an experienced professional that will work directly with the Transition Cell Lead and the Venture Portfolio Director at NSIN to build relationships with national security-oriented and dual-use private capital sources and institutional investors, large prime contractors and assist the lead in work with Department of Defense customers. The Transition Cell works specifically to provide support for early-stage ventures groups that are formed during, or participated in, NSIN programs. Oftentimes, these are pre-seed companies that need guidance to navigate the venture capital and federal contracting spaces to move from being a team with a concept to becoming a company with a prototype.

 

This role will provide ongoing programmatic support and private capital network building to the Transition Cell Lead and the Venture Portfolio Director at NSIN. The SME will receive task prioritization and project focus guidance on a recurrent weekly meeting.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:


The main tasks and responsibilities of the NSIN Transition Cell Subject Matter Expert are set forth below:

Supporting internal NSIN priorities:

Advise and coordinate across both the Regional Network Team and Portfolio Program Managers on various options for transitioning technologies and providing options around sources and structures of private capital.Provide recommendations that drive the adoption of programs, initiatives, and policies.Help analyze and improve established metrics, planning, forecasting, decision support standards, policies, and programs set forth by NSIN leadership.Develop products aimed at internal NSIN stakeholders.Regularly track and provide data that are helpful in measuring NSIN performance in advancing its goals.

Support NSIN early-stage groups and companies:

Assist NSIN’s existing and growing portfolio of companies in their venture / private-capital readiness and transition of their capabilities via the various available methods and through the business operations challenges that they face during early stages.Support the coordination of engagements by acting as a POC for teams and companies that come out of NSIN programs.Assist in the identification and support of early-stage groups and companies relevant to NSIN programming.Develop and support the development of products aimed at startups / ventures.Regularly track and provide data that are helpful in measuring Transition Cell’s contribution to NSIN performance in advancing its goals.

Supporting NSIN Partnerships Development:

Build long-standing relationships with DOD.Analyze DOD spending trends and the DOD budget landscape.Assist in developing and presenting information and courses of action to decision makers.Assist in the identification, planning, and execution of opportunities to grow and strengthen the National Security Innovation Base.Advise and assist NSIN leadership on opportunities for collaborative ventures in and out of Federal Government.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Master’s Degree in a STEM field OR equivalent experience.10+ years of experience in technology transfer and advanced capabilities deployment.10+ years of experience with DOD and Armed Services customers.Experience driving engagement with private capital and institutional investor groups focused on national security and dual-use applications.Excellent organizational skills, able to track statuses across multiple projects, applications, and larger directives while still meeting deadlines.Ability to manage ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to other business departments at all organizational levels.Ability to pass a background check including, but not limited to, personal and professional financial history, nationwide criminal record search, credit check and other relevant background information deemed necessary.Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications:

Active Secret Clearance (or above) Level.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

The ability to focus on computer screens for extensive periods of time.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS:

 

As a condition of employment, must pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results.
