Project Description:
Work with the Engineering staff to support the Transmission Control Center.
Real Time Planning(RTP) supports the operation of the transmission grid by doing tasks that support the tools, programs, and databases used to perform various operational tasks such as outage coordination, powerflow studies, power system monitoring, and finding solutions to issues in real time out to two years in the future.
RTP works with most groups in the transmission business unit so this position provides insight to many career opportunities at Xcel Energy.
The intern will work as an entry level engineer supporting the team.
Through practical experience and mentoring, successful candidate will gain significant professional confidence in simple power flow studies for planned transmission outages, transmission line loading reviews, and restoration planning.
This will be a summer opportunity with the potential to extend into a school semester.
The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer with the option to work up to 16 hrs./wk. during a school semester.
Minimum Requirements:
Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited Electrical or Power Systems Engineering program
Current Sophomore or above.
Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally
Must be self- motivated, have good mechanical aptitude, and ability to work well with others
Must be within commuting distance of work location year-round
Able to work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer
Able to commit to the internship for a year or longer
Willingness to work in field and in office
*please note, interns will be graduate or undergraduate or undergraduate/master’s level, therefore, work should be relevant and meaningful based on education level. Please DO NOT submit a proposal that requires technical skills/systems usage. You are more than welcome to teach/train students, but we cannot screen for/require technical skills outside of Microsoft Applications

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $18.80 to $22.70 per hour
