Transmission Line Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Transmission Line Engineer is responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing the construction of high-voltage power transmission lines, including tasks like conducting feasibility studies, route planning, structural analysis, material selection, cost estimation, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, often using specialized software like PLS-CADD to model and design the lines; they may also be involved in project management aspects like site visits during construction and ensuring proper installation of transmission line components. 

Key responsibilities of a transmission line engineer:

Design and Analysis:Develop transmission line designs considering factors like voltage level, conductor selection, tower structure, and foundation design. Conduct structural analysis of towers and poles using engineering software to ensure stability under various load conditions. Perform electrical calculations related to conductor sag, line impedance, and power flow. Project Planning and Feasibility Studies:Identify potential transmission line routes, considering environmental constraints, land ownership, and community impacts. Conduct feasibility studies to assess project viability, including cost estimates, permitting requirements, and technical challenges. Prepare detailed project plans and schedules, including material procurement and construction phases. Construction Oversight:Review construction drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with design criteria. Conduct site visits during construction to monitor progress and address any issues Collaborate with contractors to ensure proper installation of transmission line components Regulatory Compliance:Stay updated on relevant electrical codes and regulations (NESC, IEEE standards) Prepare necessary permits and documentation for project approvals Technical Expertise:Utilize specialized software like PLS-CADD for transmission line design and analysis Understand principles of electromagnetic fields and their impact on transmission lines Knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for route planning 

Required skills and qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related fieldCurrent E.I.T2-5 years of experience in transmission line designStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsProficiency in engineering design software (e.g., PLS-CADD)Understanding of electrical power systems and transmission line theoryExcellent communication and collaboration skills to work with stakeholdersFamiliarity with relevant codes and standards (NESC, IEEE) 

Work environment:

5 days onsite in Spring Valley, NY

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $47.00/hr.
