Job Summary

Develop outage plans and construction sequences for capital projects through highly-technical research of project scopes and engagement with various project stakeholders including (but not limited to) Transmission Construction Management, Transmission Project Management, Transmission & Distribution Operations, Transmission and Distribution Planning, Transmission Engineering (Station, T-Line, and P&C), Transmission Field Services, etc. Maintain a portfolio-view of assigned outage plans to optimize capital outages with other planned outages (capital and O&M).

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Engage and work directly with project stakeholders to develop capital project outage plans that include facility outage reservations.

Utilize and/or develop an in-depth level of technical knowledge in:

- Transmission/Distribution Operations

- Station/T-Line/Protection & Control Engineering

- Project Management/Project Scheduling

- Construction Management

Ensure that ALL Outage Plans are created with safety, efficiency, and economics in mind.

Review Capital Project schedules to ensure outage dates are current in accordance with the Outage Plan.

Facilitate resolution of outage reservation coordination conflicts and identify and implement alternative solutions.

Maintain communications between Transmission and Distribution Operations relating to Outage Plans, specifically those that require mobile unit installations and radial conditions that will or may affect Transmission and Distribution Operations.

Utilize existing AEP tools and processes to communicate the proposed outage plans and outage reservations with various capital project stakeholders.

Manage outage plans for multiple capital projects simultaneously.

Assist in prioritizing outage reservations to optimize the benefit to AEP and our customers.

Coordinate and collaborate with Transmission and Distribution Operations in the evaluation of system conditions before submitting an outage reservation.

Actively review abnormal system conditions to aide in planning and coordinating outage reservations for upcoming projects.

Participate in periodic reviews with TFS Work Scheduling Teams to ensure outage optimization between Capital Projects and Non-Capital Projects/Maintenance.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Based on education, experience and interview, this opportunity will be filled commensurately at either title. For this posting, minimum requirements are stated at the lower grade. Increased expectations are at the higher grade.

Transmission Outage Planner Principal (grade 8)

Transmission Outage Planner Sr. (grade 7)

Minimum Requirements: 

EDUCATION:    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Business, or related field and 6 years related experience; OR,

Associate's degree in degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Business, or related field and 8 years related experience; OR,

High school diploma or GED equivalent and 10 years related experience. 

EXPERIENCE:  Related experience is defined as involvement with Construction Management, Transmission Engineering, Transmission Operations, or Distribution Operations.

A thorough knowledge of the Bulk Electric System, from a design and/or operations perspective, AND experience within Construction Management, Transmission Engineering, Transmission Operations, or Distribution Operations is needed to fulfill responsibilities of this job. Candidates without a technical background will not be considered.

Additional Information:

Ability to read and interpret one-line station diagrams and transmission line switching diagrams is required. Must be a team player, inquisitive, analytical, and be able to interact with and maintain working relationships with diverse teams. Aptitude to understand switching and tagging and clearance points. Clear understanding of minimum approach distances. Capacity to lead in understanding, developing, and transmitting complex outage reservation communications to project    stakeholders. Must have strong computer skills and apply skills to provide business-specific reports. Experience in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint/Excel) is strongly preferred. Knowledge of P&C zones of protection is strongly preferred. WHAT YOU'LL GET

BASE SALARY: approximately ($86,000 - $124,000) spanning both salary grades. In addition to base salary, AEP offers competitive Total Rewards including: discretionary annual incentive, 401(k), pension, health insurance, vacation, educational assistance, etc.
