Job DescriptionYou will be responsible for the 24/7 Transport operations, managing the Transport Team comprising of 10 office staff and 30 drivers. As a line manager you will need to have experience in HR processes such as grievances/disciplinaries.
Your main responsibilities will be supporting the Transport Manager in ensuring that costs are controlled in line with budget / forecast expectations. Transport compliance will also be a large part of your day to day, ensuring that MOT’s and services are completed on time. You will act as a main point of contact for customer communication, dealing with the enquiries and keeping them up to date with progress.
This role is mainly 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday however some flexibility will be required to be able to liaise with members of the team on the late/night shift.
What will you be doing?
Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans to enable delivery of products to customers within agreed service levelsReduce non contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports, daily confirmation of spend, in conjunction with other Culina depotsCarry out monthly site self auditsMotivate and develop the team through engagement, training and personal development plansEnsure all staff are fully trained and have the correct equipmentEnsure that the Transport team comply with all relevant statutes and regulationsCommunicate with 3rd Party hauliers in regard to control of all reported defects on drop trailers left for pre loadingCheck and approve maintenance cost reports and related invoicesEnsure annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on timeMonitor, Audit and Control suppliersAttend Monthly Customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport ManagerSupports communication throughout department including team briefings and publication of KPIsSupport implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the businessGenerate and implement ideas with regards to staff and operational changes, which will help drive continuous improvementEnsure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider businessBe responsible for the maintenance and fuel aspect of Transport Budget, to include various KPI’s and costsSupport the company in regard to reducing its carbon footprint, for example reducing road milesAbility to deputise for the Transport ManagerQualificationsPrevious supervisory experience within a FMCG environmentPlanning and organising skills with a high level of numeracyExcellent negotiating skills with the ability to influence and steerLeadership and motivational qualities and proven experience of building a teamAn effective communicator at all levels, good verbal and written skillsPersonal motivation and confidence resulting in a positive impactGenuine team player, a firm and confident manager who is skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating their teamHighly tolerant of change – able to work within an evolving organisationAbility to challenge the status quo and drive changes in the businessAble to thrive in a highly competitive and demanding environmentCommercially focused, consumer orientated and customer service drivenProblem solving in a pressurised environmentNational and International CPC qualification – desirableGood commercial knowledge of transport operations including experience of operating in a closed book, shared user environmentAdditional Information
