Summary About the Position: The Military Entrance Processing Station plays a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Space Force & Coast Guard, meets the high mental, moral and medical standards required by the DoD and the military services. Every MEPS represents state of the art in testing, examining and processing applicants for enlistment into the Armed Forces. Responsibilities As a Transportation Assistant, you will: Prepare, amend, and revoke transportation military orders for recruits and enlistees assigned to all Services. Ensure the Travel Program operates within compliance of the Inspector General (IG), Staff Assistance Visit (SAV), and Command Inspection Program (CIP) standards. Manage and verify shipping projections using e-Orders Shipping Register and United States Military Entrance Processing Command Integrated Resource System (USMIRS). Resolve issues in a professional manner on a recurring basis for unexpected transportation related matters. Serve as a Quality Assurance Evaluator (QAE) ensuring the designated government travel company adheres to travel contract requirements, reviewing production activities and analyzing support quality effectiveness. Perform monthly, annual, and change of transportation specialist or acting transportation officer inventory, as required, on all transportation accountable forms. Perform extensive coordination and transaction with service liaisons, USMEPCOM Headquarters, CI Travel, and all service DFAS. Perform reconciliation of Centrally Billed Accounts (CBAs), using accepted practices to resolve problems and deviations. Manage and issue the Department of Treasury meal checks and meal tickets to recruits. Coordinate with five (5) Service liaisons ensuring any issues regarding recruit travel have been addressed. Conduct comprehensive transportation briefings, to all recruits prior to leaving the MEPS, ensuring all applicants understand what to expect during their travel. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Utilizing automated systems/programs/applications to accomplish day to day work; Analyzing regulations to ensure compliance and/or recommend improvements; Briefing groups of individuals on rules/regulations and steps to follow to resolve problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Management, Business Administration, Transportation, Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field to the position to be filled. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accounting Analysis Administration and Management Communications Transportation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
