About the Position: Multiple locations: US Army Sustainment Command, 407th AFSB, Fort Bliss, TX and 406th AFSB, Fort Drum, NY. This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 months position. Responsibilities Inspects contractor’s performance at owner’s residence and at warehouse during packaging, packing, crating, loading, shipping, unloading, uncrating, and unpacking. Identifies deficiencies in packing methods and requirements in order to determine extent and severity of any potential problem area. Performs damage inspections when requested by shipper, carrier or claims office. Processes inbound/outbound inspection data through Transportation Operational Property System (TOPS), Defense Property System (DPS) and/or other required systems. Inspects contractor’s warehouses to determine that storage methods are proper, adequate protection is provided against fire, flooding, insects, vermin, and facility is receiving adequate community fire and police protection. Completes monthly inspection report. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 06 level which includes 1) Assisting in conducting inspections of personal property shipments; 2) Counseling personnel or dependents on transportation services; and 3) Reviewing personal property shipping documents for accuracy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Typing Requirement: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer Skills Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Oral Communication Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a(n) Logistics Career Field position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position. This position will be filled as a time-limited appointment. Army employees who accept time limited appointments (to include employees with personal competitive status) will be separated at the end of the time-limited appointment date if the Not-to-Exceed (NTE) date is not extended. Permanent Army employees who accept a time limited appointment will be expected to sign a statement of understanding acknowledging the associated impacts of taking such appointment.
