This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and has the flexibility to telecommute, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent may be expected to work in the office on occasion.
The Transportation Equity Planner will help coordinate implementation of MnDOT’s transportation equity work. Recent MnDOT policies like the Statewide Multimodal Transportation Plan and agency strategic plan have made several commitments to advance transportation equity throughout the agency and transportation system in the state. The position will support ongoing transportation equity activities like a lunch and learn series to tracking the agency’s transportation equity progress using an internal equity inventory. This position will also contribute to and lead new activities to build MnDOT’s capacity to embed equity throughout the agency.
The position will build off of the direction of the Statewide Multimodal Transportation Plan and Advancing Transportation Equity Initiative to help MnDOT and other partners better understand the benefits and burdens of transportation systems, services and spending for underserved communities in Minnesota. The position will further coordinate planning efforts to identify and implement key actions, policy changes, and new partnerships to make meaningful change and address the challenges faced by our underserved communities.
Work includes coordinating and integrating transportation equity planning and research activities between MnDOT districts, other state and federal agencies, metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), regional development organizations (RDOs), tribes, local units of government, and community-based organizations.
Some travel will be required on an infrequent basis to attend meetings with partners and stakeholders or training.
**Minimum Qualifications**
Two years of advanced professional transportation planning experience that demonstrates:
+ Experience planning and coordinating equity driven projects.
+ Experience conducting community organizing or public engagement experience using various strategies to present to a variety of audiences.
+ Experience advancing the interests of underserved communities.
NOTE: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, Political Science substitutes for six months of advanced professional experience.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience withpolicy analysis, evaluation, or data analysis.
+ Experience with facilitation and outreach.
+ Understanding of change management theory or practice.
