The Trucking Foreman is a highly skilled and valued part of our team, and serves to lead, direct, and inspire the drivers of the company and to provide materials availability for the operational needs of the company. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated to connect with drivers and field leadership, and driven to meet project requirements. The ideal candidate will also be skilled at prioritization, understanding the broader short-term and long-term impacts of each job, and allocating resources according to the bigger picture company goals. This person must also be detailed oriented in order to maintain accuracy in various systems for use across the company. TOTAL COMPENSATION $85,900.00 to $126,300.00 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES + Direct drivers’ daily activities in a way that fosters good attitude, high morale, retention, and overall departmental productivity. + Coach and train staff to maximize departmental efficiencies while maintaining a professional and positive working environment, including: + Assisting in the objective evaluation of staff within set timelines; address challenges and shortcomings in a timely and effective manner that fosters team relations and cooperation. + Conducting regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports. + Monitoring daily activities of drivers and provide leadership in resolving any problems in an effective manner. + Listening to Driver concerns and helping to solve them or helping them in identify the appropriate contacts. + Manage Driver’s compliance with DOT regulations and daily vehicles inspections. + Develop Standard Operating Procedures to ensure company equipment and staff follow DOT, OSHA, and all other federal, state and local rules and regulations. + Coordinate with Safety Department and Transportation Manager to ensure safety programs are implemented such that safety is maximized throughout the organization while minimizing cost and disruption to operations, including but not limited to: + Ensuring required safety meetings are held and attended. + Promoting and modeling Speak Up Listen Up, and ensuring all staff feel comfortable speaking up about concerns. + Monitoring and coaching safety and effective driving habits in partnership with safety department. + Manage Fiore owned or leased equipment such that the proper equipment is used for the right project. + Maintenance of a professional appearance and respectful decorum in the work environment. + Conduct self in alignment with the FIORE PRIDE values + Assist in the hiring process by participating in candidate selection, interviewing, and onboarding to ensure a well-qualified and cohesive team. + Conduct thorough drive tests for newly hired drivers as well as annual tests for current employees. + Demonstrate solid team leadership, modeling Company values and initiatives like FIORE PRIDE, Leadership Journey, Speak Up Listen Up (SULU), and others, and setting the desired tone for the business unit. + Support cross-departmental information needs, such as verifying daily site and driver schedules to communicate needs and updates to dispatch. + Collaborate with Field Leadership to ensure each business unit’s needs are met, including: + Reviewing equipment and personnel needs and supporting allocation in accordance with the most crucial and pressing priorities of the company at any given time. + Work with Dispatch to create, update, and change schedules as needed and with Company’s priorities, values, and profitability in mind. + Proactively identifying potential delivery and pick-up problems before they result in service issues, and taking steps to remedy these issues. + Communicate with Site Foremen to identify site entry and exits and any changes in routes; communicating with drivers of routes and changes each morning. + Ensuring all shipping documentation is available for drivers to avoid pick up or delivery delays. + Work closely with maintenance to schedule truck services and repairs and minimize production impacts. + Partner with Safety to coordinate the investigation of accident / incidents or unsafe conditions within the transportation department. QUALIFICATIONS Required: + In-depth understanding of trucking industry, including: + Understanding of daily tasks and pitfalls that drivers encounter + Understanding of trucking industry culture and ability to help counter it where necessary to ensure Fiore & Sons upholds its own unique values + Broad understanding of logistics best practices, budgeting, and production maximization + Ability to read, understand, and implement general transportation procedures, guidelines, and processes + Superior leadership and negotiation skills, including: + Ability to collaborate across departments and accommodate different goals + Ability to negotiate effectively with partners and vendors without losing the relationship + Ability to engage and inspire teammates while holding them accountable in a manner consistent with Company goals and communication standards + Ability to foster an environment of open communication and feedback, such that every employee feels comfortable speaking his or her truth without fear of judgement or repercussions + Superior communication skills and modeling of Fiore’s Leadership Journey, FIORE PRIDE, and Speak Up Listen Up (SULU) + Creative problem-solving skills, including + Strong analytical skills and an inclination toward win-wins + Ability to think outside the box to solve logistical shortages + Ability to reallocate resources and maximize efficiency + Ability to manage a high number of moving pieces without losing site of the big picture + Ability to grasp new processes, procedures, data, and expectations quickly in a rapidly changing environment + Ownership and initiative, including: + Ability to accept responsibility for outcomes and respond in a way that encourages further feedback + Follow-through to ensure drivers, field crews, and other departments have everything they need to be successful + Proactivity in solving problems before they arise + Strong computer skills, including extensive expertise with Microsoft Office Suite. + Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as required to accommodate customer and project demands. + Minimum of high school diploma or GED. + Ability to pass and maintain DOT safety sensitive FMCSA requirements in regard to pre- and post-employment drug screening and DOT physical. + Maintenance of valid Class A CDL Driver License with multiple endorsements and good motor vehicle record (MVR) to maintain insurability guidelines. Preferred: + Prefer License includes Hazmat, Tanker, and Double/Triple trailer + Prefer knowledge of Samsara system LANGUAGE SKILLS Excellent oral and written communications skills. This position requires the ability to communicate in English with co-workers, customers and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS This job requires the ability to do basic math for weight and size conversions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work functions require the physical ability and mobility to safely walk in undeveloped project grounds, as well as to ride in vehicles for long periods of time. Ability and mobility to repeatedly kneel, crawl, push, pull and climb to and from cabin or trailer as required by task. Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time, as well as to lift up to 50 pounds intermittently. Able to use a broom or shovel to clean trailer of residual material. Ability to view a computer screen for an extended period of a time and endure varying office temperatures. WORK ENVIRONMENT Primarily indoor work in an office environment, including varying office temperatures and ambient sounds. Some outdoor and shop work, as well, including exposure to variant weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow), and shop fumes and noises.
