**Job Duties:** **Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:**
+ Create the district annual plan and schedule for traffic counts, including vehicle class counts, and data collection and submit the schedule to the Assistant District Traffic Engineer for approval.
+ Train new field staff conducting counts on all types of counting equipment, traffic control requirements, mapping solutions, and technology.
+ Fairy extensive use of a computer and software programs to coordinate, schedule, plan and prioritize, train, and collect, review and submit traffic data.
+ Ensure all counting equipment has been tested before use in the field.
+ Set traffic count equipment to obtain count information, collect traffic count equipment after 48 hours of data collection, and document the count was completed.
+ Operate and maintain all vehicles, tools, equipment, and communication devices so that optimal performance and condition of those assets is assured, that all record logs are maintained and monitored, and all reports are promptly requested and scheduled.
+ Lead data collection for engineering studies, and assist in preparing engineering studies and investigation reports using templates developed by the District and in accordance with MnDOT standards.Studies and investigation reports may include, but not limited to, speed studies, traffic forecasts, traffic movements, crash analysis, and other similar studies.
+ Review and analyze traffic data to identify trends and relationships. Present findings and conclusions.
**Minimum Qualifications**
A Valid Class D Driver’s License at time of application.
**Exam Part 1:** The level of experience to perform this job at the TGS level can be achieved with:
Two years of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities;
OR
One year of experience performing Traffic Engineering activities AND a combination of one year of experience in any of the following areas: road or bridge maintenance, road construction, design, surveying, materials/soils, right of way, sign repair/installation and/or permits.
+ Note:A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees:Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
**Exam Part 2:** Applicants that are made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. The required passing score for the Math portion is a level 4 or higher and the Reading portion is a level 4 or higher. (Acceptance of the offer is contingent on passing a math and reading assessment test.) If you’ve previously taken and passed the math and reading assessments, you may be exempt from retesting. Please check with your district HR office.
**Preferred Qualifications**
Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate or Transportation Generalist in the traffic engineering field of work.
**Physical Requirements**
A pre-placement physical examination is required for this position. Current employees who have successfully bid or are moving into specific job classifications will be required to complete the pre-employment physical exam.
