Job Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for performing journey level inspection and enforcement work covering ground transportation services operating within the City limits. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff.

Work Hours
7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday at the department's discretion will require some nights and weekends.
Essential Job Functions
+ Maintains records of taxicabs, limousine, sightseeing tours, and horse carriages, to include insurance documentation, vehicle data, and other records.
+ Processes City Driver's Permit applications (i.e. instructs applicants of ordinance requirements and application procedures, secure background information, etc.)
+ Conducts inspections of all vehicles for hire during semi- annual/annual inspections, including operations and stands.
+ Issues warnings, citations, and/or removal from service notices, as required.
+ Investigates complaints against vehicles for hire companies.
+ Enforces all rules, regulations and ordinances regarding vehicles for hire, to include taxicabs, limousines, tour, and charter vehicles.
+ Enforces laws, ordinances, and regulations relating to vehicles for hire and their operation.
+ Maintains all records and documents that may be required.
+ Enforces all taxicab and horse-drawn carriage ordinances.
+ Collects information from enforcement agencies and City offices.
+ Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
+ High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
+ Two (2) years of transportation inspection experience.
+ Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
+ Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest
for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.

+ Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
+ Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Knowledge of all City rules, regulations, and ordinances relating to vehicles for hire.
+ Knowledge of basic investigative techniques.
+ Knowledge of basic automotive mechanics.
+ Knowledge of operations relating to the vehicles for hire industry.
+ Ability to interpret and properly enforce all City codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations impartially and efficiently.
+ Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.
+ Ability to analyze situations and develop effective courses of action.
+ Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
+ Ability to make decisions based on sound judgment.
+ Ability to respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests for services in a fair, tactful, and firm manner.
+ Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position.
