Transportation Manager (Marine)
Overview ***This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP*** The Transportation Manager Marine is responsible for the coordination, planning and execution maritime support throughout the atoll with the various customers of the Marine Department. They are also responsible for coordinating logistics efforts of external support activities required for successful vessel and maintenance operations. #LI-TM1 Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. All personnel and administrative management. He/She organizes, supervises and handles all administrative areas within Marine Operations. One of the direct advisors and assistants to the Manager, Marine Operations and assists the Port Engineer in areas of personnel and administration. Coordinates and assists all visiting ships, especially in coordinating all on-island support services. Arranging and coordinating shore-based support for all ship arrivals, departures, and port clearances. Responds to all Logistic Requests (LOGREQ) and emails associated with visiting vessels. Ensures all supporting functional areas, USAG-KA and other on-island organizations are aware of upcoming ships visiting Kwajalein. Scheduling all cargo and passenger trips in such a manner as to maximize vessel, personnel and equipment efficiencies and fuel economy without jeopardizing safety. Publishing a daily and weekly marine transportation schedules. Scheduling and coordinating cargo operations at designated stevedoring sites on Kwajalein, Meck, and Roi-Namur. Ensures all files, reports, and records are being properly maintained. Is the Key Control Officer for the department Assist in the disciplinary system to include review of warning sheets, investigate complaints of violations of company and government rules and regulations and make reports to the Port Engineer Takes decisive action to eliminate unsafe conditions. Is deemed a designated representative for Marine Operations whenever the Marine Manager, Port Captain, Port Engineer, or Chief Diver is unavailable. Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required. High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Maritime Transportation or Logistics Degree Experience: 8 years experience serving as a transportation manager or other closely related field Preferred: 5 Years maritime experience as a transportation manager Skills: Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class is required. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement is required. Ability to prioritized responsibilities to handle a demanding workload is required. Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required. Advance ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form is required. High-level organizational and planning skills, so that workflow is managed and accurate is required Working Conditions: Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. The Worker is frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia. The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways. Physical Requirements: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
