SummaryThe Night Transportation Manager will ensure the Transportation department culture is focused on people, safety, service and cost through meaningful engagements with drivers, best in-class service to customers and safe and profitable operations.
Schedule: Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thurs 8pm to 6am – must be flexible to provide coverage outside of scheduled working days/hours when needed
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities Use transportation experience in operations to manage personnel and drive efficient transportation operations through the associates they lead, ensuring the safe, accurate and timely daily outbound shipments to customers and other distribution centers within the organization. Increase Safety scores for the department to include implementing changes, Associate education, and development, increase awareness, actively participate in Incident and Accident reviews, and partner with other departments for change and implementation (Safety, Plants, Garages, etc.). Supervise, manage, and develop transportation associates to provide support to the company drivers, carriers, customer, and company business units (Agri-Business, Dress Poultry and Live Production) that require nighttime support. Evaluate job performance. Develop direct reports for growth, create and execute the Succession Plan for assigned locations. Establish and maintain relationships with drivers, inter-department Leaders and Associates to facilitate problem solving resulting in department growth and success. Reduce delivery expense by seeking out ways to gain efficiencies and drive continuous improvement. Establish, report, and promote continuous improvement on weekly KPI’s specially around on-time delivery. Develop and implement initiatives for improvement. Maintain required staffing in all functions; approve and interview candidates as needed. Train new hires in all phases of operation. Perform overnight logistic functionalities to helped support facilities. Promote continuous improvement on cancelled outbound shipments. Travel to include every 2 months for one week to off-site fleet domiciled location to gain knowledge from facility and driver feedback on continuous improvement opportunities. Manage log violations, Hours of service, and pre- and post- trip inspections; administer follow-up flow to Supervisors. Support Fleet supervisors in safety investigations. Provide support as needed to ensure company assets are correctly assigned (i.e. trucks match position). Manage and report on rental tractors and trailers. Ensure rental equipment quantity meets company requirements. Overnight management of trailer pools based off volume and needs for each location. Support strategic direction of the department and company. Required holiday and weekend coverage as assigned. Other duties as assigned.Minimum Education
REQUIRED: High school diploma. 2 year degree in related field
PREFERRED: Bachelors Degree in a related field
Experience RequirementsPrior senior leadership / management experience
Experience Preferred5-10 years of transportation, distribution or logistics experience; strong interpersonal, communication and project management skills.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements Flexible work schedules (both days and hours) to handle weather, holidays or other service disruptions 24 hours, 7 days a week on-call basis for matters involving customer service or safety of drivers Ability to travel to and from facility locations Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings. Exposed to office equipment, outside weather conditions Pay RangeThe salary range for this position is $84,000 - $126,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications with annual bonus available (variable depending on performance).
