Job purposeThe Transportation Planning Manager is responsible for designing, coordinating, and optimizing all transportation and logistics planning activities to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective movement of personnel, materials, and equipment to and from project sites. This role integrates with project management, logistics, procurement, security, and operations to develop robust transportation strategies, manage fleets, and mitigate risk in a dynamic, multi-national environment.
Job responsibilities Develop and implement comprehensive transportation plans supporting mobilization, demobilization, site access, and on-site movement of people and assets. Create and optimize routing, scheduling, and fleet utilization to maximize efficiency, safety, and on-time performance. Manage third-party transport providers and in-house fleet operations, including contract management, performance monitoring, and cost control. Ensure compliance with local regulations, road safety standards, permits, visas/work authorization, and company policies; coordinate with security and risk teams on transport-related security measures. Conduct risk assessments for transport operations, implement mitigations, and lead incident investigations related to transportation. Develop and manage transportation budgets, forecast demand, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, fuel efficiency, utilization rates, and incident rates. Collaborate with warehouse, logistics, and supply chain teams to align inbound/outbound material flow with project schedules. Plan for contingencies (weather, security incidents, road closures) and maintain continuity of transport services. Maintain accurate transportation records, compliance documentation, vehicle maintenance logs, and incident reports. Lead continuous improvement initiatives, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training for transport personnel. Liaise with local authorities, port/airport authorities (if applicable), and vendor partners to ensure smooth operations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., transportation planning, logistics, industrial engineering, supply chain, or related discipline). Minimum 15 years of experience in transportation planning, logistics, or fleet management, preferably within large-scale industrial, construction, or multinational environments. Proven experience managing complex transport operations, fleet management, and vendor contracts in challenging or remote locations. Strong understanding of safety, security, and regulatory requirements as they pertain to transportation.
