Transportation Safety Specialist

Job Description:

The Transportation Safety Specialist works with Operations Leadership and associates, and Fleet Department to support a strong safety culture and is responsible for ensuring the facilities are compliant with all DOT, OSHA, Federal, and State/Local guidelines across all areas of Operations with DOT vehicles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide subject matter expertise on Cambria DOT safety standards and programsPartners with Safety and Fleet Departments to develop and coordinate DOT driver training including behind-the-wheel and classroom instruction.Facilitates the Third Party Testing Program for employees to obtain/maintain a CDL.Presents training sessions to include initial driver training, re-certification and conducts road training that includes demonstrating the proper handling of vehicles in various traffic/weather conditions.Certifies DOT driver of training benchmarks; reviews DMV records; and ensures that all drivers meet federal, state, and local regulations/ qualifications to operate a DOT vehicle.Evaluates the effectiveness of training sessions and recommends/ implements improvements.Conducts and documents on-the-road observations and random checks of DOT drivers and equipment to identify and correct unsafe driving practices and procedures.Assists as needed with responding to accidents involving Cambria fleet vehicles; collects accident reports and related data from the maintenance and operations division for all accidents.Conducts statistical analyses on types and causes of accidents/ incidents to determine additional training & safety needs.Partners with Safety and Fleet departments in developing communications supporting changes or requirements of DOT and Safety programs.Ensure facilities are compliant with all DOT, OSHA, Federal and State/Local guidelines, requirements and Cambria DOT/safety standardsAdvise, inform and generate reports for operations leadership on relevant DOT/Driver initiativesAssist with accident or near miss investigationsCommunicate effectively with all employeesKeep work area clean and orderlyPerform job duties safely as outlined in the Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)Ability to travel 25% - 50%Additional duties as assigned by management

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

CDL LicenseBilingual (English/Spanish)1-3 years relevant experienceKnowledge of DOT regulations and OSHA regulations for General IndustryProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite productsCrane and forklift experienceCritical thinking and troubleshooting skillsBasic math skillsMechanically inclinedIndustrial work experience

Minimum Requirements:

Education:  High School Diploma or GED, Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred

Experience: Safety experience in manufacturing field preferred

Physical Requirements:

Lift up to 50 lbs.Push/pull 100 lbs.Stand on feet for long periods of time during a shift for up to 12 hours, with intermittent breaksWear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided by CambriaWork in an outdoor environment in all weather conditionsWalk up and down steps multiple times throughout shiftBend over multiple times throughout shift
