What You'll Do as Transportation Specialist I:

Repair, re-build or overhaul major assemblies of automobiles, busses, bicycles, trucks, tractors, refueling vehicles, military vehicles, LSV/OGMVCs, material handling equipment and special purpose equipment. Inspect vehicles and equipment to determine the repairs required for the vehicle or equipment to meet the established serviceability standards. Perform incoming inspections, outgoing inspections, Limited Technical Inspections, accident, and abuse estimates in accordance with established standards. Diagnose the source of trouble and determine the extent of repairs required. Replace worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts. Grind and adjust valves. Rebuild carburetors. Overhaul transmissions. Repair fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. Maintain tools, equipment, and clean work areas. Practice good housekeeping, tool control, FOD prevention and safety always. Inspect all vehicles and equipment entering shop for maintenance; debrief operators and record discrepancies that may be found in accordance with established standards. Forward all identified discrepancies to VM&A for assignment to the appropriate repair function. Perform minor maintenance in accordance with established standards. Operates a company-owned vehicle (and cellular telephone) to transport self and others in performance of assigned duties; performs operator maintenance as required.

What You'll Need to Be Successful:

High school diploma or GED. Requires knowledge of PC functions and Software. Requires experience using hand tools, power tools and electrical equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Frequently required to sit and climb or balance. Use of hands and fingers to handle or feel. Ability to reach with hands and arms. Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds assisted. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in the various areas of assignment; use of hand and power tools in the construction, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, masonry, welding, and plumbing trades; general construction and landscape construction codes; safety practices and procedures. Ability to plan, direct, train, oversee and perform skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work in the assigned area; use and maintain common hand tools, small power equipment and other facility equipment. Mathematical skills to compute measurements. Ability to communicate both orally and in written format, including ability to instruct others in correct maintenance procedures and safe use of materials and equipment. Ability to work as a team member. Self-starter, able to work with minimal direction and supervision.

Other Requirements:

Ability to pass criminal, drug, and driving screening. Exposure to dirt, dust, loud noise, and outside weather conditions. Ability to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays. Possess valid driver’s license and maintain good driving record. Ability to obtain and maintain a NACI clearance and Common Access Card.
