INTERNAL POSTING-Only temporary or permanent NCDOT employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126May Apply + This posting is for a Transportation Supervisor I position in the Halifax County Bridge Unit. + In this position you will supervise the activities of a bridge crew in the maintenance, repairs, rehabilitation and replacement of bridge, culverts and pipes + You will be required to supervise activities of Bridge crews determining and scheduling daily work including needed labor, equipment and materials to accomplish crew activities; activities include maintenance, repair and replacement of timber, concrete and steel components (such as railings, decks, superstructure, substructure, joints, trusses) Cleaning and painting steel and masonry walls; complete replacement of bridges and large diameter pipes; prepares reports and forms; + In this position you will supervise daily tasks; read and interpret construction/repair plans; monitor and review daily work assignments; make adjustments to project plans to meet field conditions; plan, monitor and ensure safety standards are adhered to; document material inventory and equipment usage Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: + Experience in bridge maintenance and repair, as well as bridge maintenance equipment operation + Experience in Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices + Experience inspecting bridges for minor maintenance needs Additional Expectations: Ability to supervise work crews. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Employee will be expected to maintain effective working relations with other employees and the general public. Ability to perform quantity calculations. Employee will be expected to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Safety toe shoes required. Class A CDL with N endorsements required.
