Transportation Technician involves you carrying out crucial technical duties related to construction inspections. You will play a key role in ensuring that all construction projects comply with the required codes, plans, standards, and specifications. DESCRIPTION OF WORK The transportation technician is a journeyman-level position performing construction inspection activities and related duties. In this position, you will provide inspection services to ensure compliance with contract documents to meet department goals of reduced cost while maintaining quality. You will also review the documentation of work units completed and materials used to ensure accuracy and conformance to department policies. Other duties include: + Assist with the direction, coordination, and control of the District's field construction project records and documentation. + Assist with the inspection of any or all routine phases of highway construction work, including checking grades, elevations, and stakeout of roadways and simple structures. + Assists with the inspection of work zone traffic control signs and devices to ensure that they are placed and maintained in accordance with the Work Zone Traffic Control Plan and Publication 212, 213, or MUTCD. + Make all mathematical calculations to determine the consistency of materials being used, draw sketches, note field plan changes, and maintain consolidated inspection, progress, and quality control reports associated with the work being accomplished. + Closely observe construction operations/plant operations/material testing and enforce contract requirements. + • Read, understand, and research plans, drawings, cross sections, contracts, specifications, manuals and publications as required. + Assists with the inspection of and has the ability to inspect all items listed in Pub 408. + • Prepare and maintain necessary documentation, including mobile computing iPad applications, PSAs, materials books, concrete/bituminous inspection books, plant diaries, straight line charts, and as-built drawings. Work Schedule and Additional Information: + Seasonal full-time employment + Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. + Location: 1002 Hamilton Street , Allentown PA 18101 is the headquarters.
