The Transportation & Trade Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing Marmon Foodservice Technologies’ transportation operations and ensuring compliance with international trade regulations. This role involves managing and driving continuous improvement in logistics, optimizing transportation costs, and ensuring adherence to trade laws and regulations.

What You’ll Do

Develop and implement transportation strategies to optimize delivery performance and costs.

Oversee and manage relationships with MFT’s chosen freight forwarders, and other logistics partners.

Ensure compliance with international trade laws and regulations, including import/export controls, customs regulations, and trade sanctions.

Develop and maintain trade compliance policies, processes and procedures.

Conduct periodic audits and assessments to ensure compliance.

Establish and maintain relationships with transportation providers and customs brokers.

Negotiate contracts and service agreements, as needed.

Monitor vendor performance and ensure adherence to service level agreements.

Generate reports related to transportation and trade compliance.

Identify and lead efforts to mitigate risks associated with transportation and trade compliance.

Develop and implement risk management strategies.

Stay updated on changes in trade regulations; communicate impact and adjust policies accordingly.

Monitor transportation costs and implement cost-saving measures.

Analyze shipping routes and modes to determine the most efficient and cost-effective options.

Prepare and manage transportation budgets.

Implement and maintain transportation management systems (TMS) and other relevant technologies.

Ensure data accuracy and leverage technology to monitor and improve transportation efficiency.

Stay informed about emerging technologies and assess their potential benefits.

Skills/Experience We are Looking For

Experience in overseeing multiple aspects of operations, such as production, supply chain, logistics, quality assurance, and facilities management. Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence, streamline processes, and achieve cost efficiencies while maintaining high-quality standards. Experience in implementing continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean Six Sigma, Total Quality Management (TQM), or Kaizen.

Strong leadership abilities to effectively lead and inspire cross-functional teams, set strategic direction, and drive performance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders, senior management, and external partners. Ability to motivate, mentor, and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.

Strategic Planning and Decision-Making: Strategic mindset with the ability to develop and execute operational strategies aligned with overall business objectives. Experience in analyzing data, market trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to make informed decisions and drive business growth. Ability to anticipate future challenges and opportunities, adapt to changing market conditions, and lead the organization through periods of transition or growth.

Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify root causes of operational issues and develop effective solutions. Experience in implementing change management initiatives and overcoming resistance to change. Ability to mitigate risks and ensure business continuity by implementing robust contingency plans and crisis management protocols.

Project Management: Project management skills to oversee complex projects, from planning and execution to monitoring and evaluation. Experience in managing project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Adaptability: Deep understanding of the industry landscape, market dynamics, and competitive factors influencing operations. Adaptability to technological advancements, market trends, and regulatory changes impacting operations.

Continuous Learning and Improvement: Commitment to staying updated on emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in operations management. Willingness to pursue professional development opportunities, certifications, and further education to enhance skills and knowledge.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering or a related field.

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in transportation management and trade compliance.

Strong foundational understanding of import/export procedures and international trade regulations (North America).

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to manage supplier relationships and negotiations, develop budgets and reduce operational costs.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.

Knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS) and/or related technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field.

Certification in logistics, supply chain management, or trade compliance (e.g., ASCM, CSCMP, CUSECO).

Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.

Proficiency in ERP systems and trade compliance software.
