In this position you will serve Nash Bridge Maintenance Crew.
· Your work will include maintenance, repair and construction of state-owned bridges, culverts, and Non-NBIS pipes (54” and greater in diameter) within Division 4.
· In this position your work is technical in nature and labor intensive & employee will be required to work in and around heavy traffic at interstate speeds, near heavy equipment, power tools, etc.
· You will be required to be familiar with and/or able to learn, but not limited to carpentry skills, welding, pipe fitting, structure painting, machine operation, inspection of various materials that compromise state bridges, large pipes or culverts, utilizing small hand tools and power tools and ability to work in a close team environment or independently as needed.
· You will perform Emergency Call Backs, and during certain times of the year may work a 4-day 10-hour schedule.
· In this position you must possess good communication skills, follow instructions to complete assigned tasks, demonstrate ability to operate assigned machinery effectively, use of tools associated with related Bridge maintenance and/or construction activities.
· You must have the ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
· You will be required to perform work while suspended at moderate heights, confined areas, over water, in water, in extreme heat and cold, and during inclement weather. Safety toe footwear required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

+ Working knowledge of standard bridge maintenance and construction procedures
+ Experience in the maintenance and installation of erosion control devices
+ Knowledge of work zone safety and NCDOT Workplace policies and procedures
+ Experience in the operation of at least 2 pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, asphalt patcher crack sealing machine, track excavators, skid steer or sweeper.
Additional Expectations:
General skills in a wide variety of functional areas including pile driving, carpentry, concrete work, machine operation, contract inspection. Repair and replacement of culverts, bridges, large diameter pipe, bulkheads, and pile clusters. Sandblasting, lead paint removal, painting, steel fabrication and straightening of steel beams. Trenching & shoring and bushing & shrubbing. Physical activities required are standing, walking uneven terrain, climbing, lifting a minimum of 50lbs., talking and hearing. Also exposed to extreme conditions such as ice, snow, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. Must not be afraid of heights. Class A CDL required. Safety toe shoes required. Position will be subject to emergency call-back situations which may occur after normal working hours.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and three years of experience operating equipment directly related to the area of specialization, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.
