Job Description

Purpose & Scope: 

The Trauma Center Director is responsible for the ongoing development, growth and oversight of the Trauma Program. He/she must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of the interdependent roles of various physicians, nurses and allied health professions. The Trauma Center Director is responsible for promoting high standards of practice through development of trauma policies, protocols and practice guidelines; participating in rigorous performance improvement monitoring; and staff education. He/she has authority to act on all trauma performance improvement and administrative issues and critically review trauma deaths and complications that occur within the hospital.

 

Education: 

Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.

 

Experience: 

Three years of clinical experience in emergency/critical care or trauma care is required.

Two years of health administration experience is preferred.

Two years of experience in process improvement or data analytics is preferred.

 

Certification/Licensure: 

Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Licensure in Nursing is required.

ACLS certification is preferred.

Certification in Trauma Nursing Core Curriculum (TNCC) required.

CCRN certification or CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) preferred.

 

Other Qualifications

Ability to accept and implement change.
Demonstrated history of positive collegial relationships with colleagues, physicians, support staff, hospital-based providers, administrators and patients.
Note: ACLS or PALS cards stand as showing competence in BLS Skills per American Heart Association Guidelines. If an employee holds current ACLS or PALS certification, this meets the requirement for BLS in their job description. They do not need to also carry a separate BLS certification.
