Trauma Registrar



Position Summary

Responsible for accurate, timely, comprehensive data collection, coding, and data entry for all injured patients meeting state or national trauma inclusion criteria. 

 

Responsibilities

•    Responsible for database management, conducting data analysis, compiling statistics, and generating reports to communicate findings while maintaining a high level of confidentiality

•    Collects, abstracts, enters and analyzes trauma patient data as required by state, local, and national agencies that regulate trauma care

•    Codes injuries and procedures utilizing ICD-10 and AIS coding systems as required

•    Validates data to ensure the integrity of the registry

•    Processes data requests from trauma registry as assigned

•    Identifies opportunities to improve EMR fields to better reflect trauma registry data points and escalates as appropriate

•    Performs other related duties as assigned

•    Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field 

•    Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function

•    Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

 

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications

•    High school diploma or GED preferred

•    Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) preferred

•    Completion of the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine’s Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Course preferred; required within 18 months of hire

•    Completion of American Trauma Society (ATS) Trauma Registry Course, or equivalent, preferred; required within 18 months of hire

•    Completion of an ICD-10 trauma injury coding course preferred; required within 18 months of hire and refresher course completed every 5 years

•    Maintain at least 24 hours of trauma-related continuing education (CE) during the trauma center verification cycle

•    1 year experience as a registrar in trauma or other registries preferred

•    BLS required

 

Working Conditions

•    Must be able to lift and move up to 10 lbs

•    Must be able to reach arms above or below should height

•    Typical equipment used in an office job

•    Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
