Trauma Registrar

Position Summary:

Assists in abstracting; coding/scoring and entering abstracted trauma patient data into the Trauma Registry.  Performs receptionist, clerical, secretarial and registry functions with frequent interruptions.  Assists in the preparation of reports for Trauma Committee. 

Education:

 

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required; with some college preferred.

Knowledge and skills typically acquired through at least two years of college or equivalent experience in registry and coding processes or computer processes.

Training and Experience:

Computer literate in Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel.  Experience in healthcare related services.  Preferred familiarity with accreditation programs and functions pertaining to Registry and Trauma Service.  Experience in computer data entry, data bases and data retrieval.  Trauma Registry Certification required within three years of assuming the position.  RHIT – Registered Health Information Technician and/or CCS – Certified Coder Specialist preferred.

Job Knowledge:

Demonstrated knowledge of medical record contents and medical terminology including anatomy and physiology concepts. Understands and assigns ICD-9 and ICD-10  codes.  Assigns AIS, Abbreviated Injury Scale and calculates ISS, Injury Severity Scores.  Able to work with minimal supervision under pressure to meet deadlines.
