Traveling Fiber Optic Placement Laborer

Responsibilities As a Fiber Optic Placing Laborer, you will support our Traveling Underground Fiber Optic Placing Foreman in the installation of fiber optic networks across various locations. The ideal candidate will assist in the installation of fiber optic cables and the operation of machinery. This position requires a strong work ethic, the ability to work as part of a team, and a commitment to safety and quality in all tasks. Support the foreman and installation crew in the installation of underground fiber optic networks, ensuring compliance with project specifications and standards. Assist in the operation and maintenance of equipment used for fiber optic installation, including backhoes, dozers, cable plows, air compressors, trenchers, and hydraulic reel trailers. Aid in the handling, pulling, and blowing of fiber optic cables, ensuring that cables are installed accurately and securely. Assist in preparing job sites by clearing debris, digging trenches, and setting up necessary equipment for fiber optic installation. Follow safety protocols and procedures, maintaining a safe and organized work environment at all times. Collaborate effectively with the installation crew, following instructions from the foreman and other team members to achieve project goals. Assist in inspecting fiber optic installations as directed to ensure adherence to quality standards. Help maintain accurate records of daily activities, materials used, and any issues encountered during installation. Be responsible for various manual tasks such as digging trenches, unloading building materials, and preparing job sites with use of hand tools like shovels, rakes, and picks. Conduct general labor on construction sites Conduct placement of conduit as directed by Foreman or Supervisor Be involved in map reading and directions Support with trench digging and closing Support with the movement of materials and vehicles as directed by Foreman or Supervisor Conduct maintenance services as directed by Foreman to include: - Cleanup, Wash Vehicles, Landscaping Perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment. Be involved with vehicle and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified Tow various trailers with flatbed trucks Troubleshoot RF and Fiber line and or equipment issues Learn how to read and construct from a design schematic of map Learn all inventory and equipment required for these projects As applicable, learn and be certified on the use of equipment: Line truck Bucket truck Cable Reel equipment Saws and drills Be familiar with NESC (National Electrical Safety Commission) safety guidelines Qualifications About You: Safety is a part of your day to day You have a track record of completing work with a high level of quality You have a knack for figuring out hard problems and enjoy a hands-on approach to your work You are looking for long term projects You enjoy getting your hands dirty with your team You have a valid Driver’s License You have a clean driving record You can lift and carry up to 70 lbs Have the ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for the project build process Must pass UI Test (urinalysis) Ability to read and understand design schematics and maps Practical working experience in overhead construction for both RF and Fiber City, County, and State clearance code knowledge and related Flagger Certified for field work as needed Excellent verbal, written, phone, and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced high volume work environment High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications related to fiber optics or construction preferred. Previous experience in fiber optic installation or related fields is a plus but not required; training will be provided. Familiarity with operating various underground digging machinery is beneficial. Strong understanding of safety practices and procedures in construction and utility work. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physical environments, including construction sites. Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Valid driver’s license is required, with a willingness to travel extensively for projects. OSHA 10 certification is a plus. Knowledge of railroad rules and regulations are a plus. Hard work pays off.
