What you will be doing
POSITION PURPOSE: Supervise the mechanics and service personnel in the preventative maintenance and repair of all fleet equipment including tractors, trailers and refrigeration units. Ensure equipment is in compliance with state and federal DOT regulations. Assist with required records, reports and control systems. The position regularly works without a manager on duty.
The position will be based in Auburn, WA.
Main responsibilities
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plan, lead, and direct activities on the shift and give appropriate feedback to 7 to 25 mechanics and service employees. Conduct employee evaluations. Deliver training to mechanics on new systems and repair procedures as necessary. Keep abreast of repair procedures for all types of fleet equipment as well as collective bargaining agreements and Company rules regarding the Truck Repair Department. Prioritize and direct the preventative maintenance and repair of equipment and staffing in a dynamic environment. Assign work on a shift basis. Direct mechanics in the proper repair of all fleet equipment including tractors, heavy duty diesel engines, trailers and refrigeration units. Adjust staffing on shifts as needed by determining the volume of repairs verses mechanics scheduled. Review the quality of repair work and correct mechanic input errors in the equipment maintenance system and provide corrective action to employees. Maintain required equipment records and reports. Maintain a safe work environment. Stay abreast on the proper repair of new equipment and electronic systems as required. Remain current on Federal and State laws and regulations regarding equipment specifications, maintenance and repair. Keep abreast of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; ensure all employees and equipment are in compliance with D.O.T. regulations. Respond to emergency situations (i.e. driver's accidents and equipment breakdown)The salary range is $80,000 to $95,000 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.

Knowledge and Experience:
Education Level: The most appropriate minimum education for this position is a Technical or Associates degree.
Experience Level: The most appropriate level of experience for this position is 6 to 8 years plus the education listed above. Bachelor's preferred. Experience can substitute for education.
Types of Work Situations: 3 to 5 years experience of progressive truck repair maintenance experience and 3 to 5 years of Supervisory experience.
Skills and Background: Proven supervisor experience Excellent math skills Enthusiastic and willing to learn new programs and procedures Ability to make decisions quickly and cost effectively Possess strong resolution skills and have the ability to take decisive action Excellent communication and organizational skills Strong knowledge of D.O.T. laws and regulations required. Proven track record of cost
reduction and increased productivity. Ability to work with mechanics to improve repair skills. Strong customer focus Experience in a union environment preferred Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously. Past heavy duty diesel mechanic experience desired. Past supervisory experience preferred.

ADDITIONAL REMARKS: This is a Truck Repair Shop within the Distribution Center and predominantly union environment . Typical noise would be associated with heavy duty diesel engines. Since these management duties take place in a shop environment, temperatures can range from minus 20 degrees to ambient. Operations are 24/7.Position requires a variety of schedules, such as swing shifts, graveyards, weekends and holidays. May be required to repair vehicles during strike situations.
