Essential Responsibilities

Ensures the vessel crew meets Ledcor Health, Safety and Environmental Standards and follows safe operating proceduresOperational control and knowledge of tugboat in all aspects of towing barges and ship assistsInteracts closely with crew and management and manages the day-to-day operation of vessel and crewCommunicates with shore-based team to promote efficiency and safety in the entire operationMay perform other duties including operating heavy machinery as required

Qualifications

Knowledge of local tides and waters on the Fraser River3 to 5 years' sea service towing barges and/or towing logs on the Fraser River and the BC CoastMust have a minimum 150 GT Domestic Certificate of CompetencyValid Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate, Marine Basic First Aid or Marine Advanced First AidMarine Emergency Duties for Officers (MED C) or Marine Emergency Duties for Senior Officers (MED D)Valid Canadian passportKnowledge of relevant Port Authority operations, procedures and regulations and demonstrated competence in Collision Regulations (Canada Shipping Act 2001) and familiarity with international shipping regulationsMust have experience navigating and operating twin screw vessels on the Fraser River, particularly North Arm and South (Main) ArmFamiliarity with Fraser River bridges and bridge transit restrictions from Marpole to MissionKnowledge, familiarity and demonstrated skill in maintaining vessel machinery and navigation electronicsMust have Coastal experience at a minimum from Victoria to Campbell RiverMust be familiar with towing tandem barges in tight quarters under couplers and tandem towing on deep sea gearStrong communication, supervisory, interpersonal and leadership skillsExcellent tug/barge safety record and demonstrated boat handling skillsAbility to meet Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol testing requirements

Work Conditions

This will be a rotational position with a schedule of either 1 week on, 1 week but hours may vary as required by the businessWorking outdoors in various weather conditionsHandling heavy lines and wire bridles and operating heavy machinery (deck and anchor winches) from time to time

Compensation

$33.88 - $61.54 per hour

This is the applicable wage range for this position. Individuals will be assigned a base wage within this range based on trade certification and/or apprenticeship level, industry experience, and work location.

Remote, site-based positions may be eligible for additional incentives including but not limited to travel and accommodation allowances.
